Dissapearing Dragon?!

While thats strange, its not what happened to me. I actually took the city he was supposed to be in, and found no dragon. Too bad the barbs hate the dragon so much...

Just had this happen again so I backed up a turn and got out the Worldbuilder. Sure enough, Acheron was listed as a unit in the city even though, as the strongest unit, he did not appear on the map. Attacking the city, I found he was not there. It would seem the problem starts when the city builds another unit and then there is a 'correction' when the city is attacked.

Interesting. But I have found him absent when I was just reconnoitering the city with Hawks. I haven't yet 'seen' him disappear while I was attacking. But I have seen him in the unit list, but not seen him as the defender displayed on the map. And I have created scenarios where he and other Dragons were in cities with powerful yet weaker defenders who were displayed on the map instead of the stronger Dragons. Those Dragons remained yet for some reason they weren't displayed as the defender on the map. I wondered if that was due to the fact that the code has been altered to make Heros defend last?

I just discovered in a recent scenario of mine that this happens with other units as well. I had given the barbs three cities and each city had one of the three Dragons in it. They were all disbanded as was an Ogre Warchief and a PitBeast. In their place the AI built standard Axemen and Archers. Hoping to avoid this I had placed Markets and Courthouses in the cities and also placed a couple Towns. But rather than it simply being a unit cost problem I wonder if its something else since the AI replaced those units with other units. Kael addresses the disappearing Archeron in Shadow. I hope this fix addresses the value the AI places on its units. I've noticed the Avatars army is also culled in a poor way. And I've had AI civs disband powerful units that I gifted them via the WB, yet they had hordes of weenies.

I often use a "proxy war" tactic to prop up a friendly neighbour with gifted troops if they are attacked and have noticed that these troops often just dissapear even before they are involved in combat. After reading this thread, i assume that the AI is disbanding them to save costs.

I always assumed that each unit has the same support cost, irresspective of tier- is this correct?
