I didn't buy any of the DLC's that came out so far but now I'd like to get one or two - can't afford them all so I gotta decide.
Which ones would you recommend the most?

(If it's important, I got R&F but all the DLC's are vanilly anyway)

If only getting one, my recommendation would be Khmer + Indonesia. They're both interesting and distinctive civs. It's also a slightly better value per civ than the single civ packs, and its the newest, which could make it the last to go on sale (if that ever happens). Ultimately, though it's largely a matter of personal preference, so I'd look at the civ abilities and see which seem most appealing to you. If you're a heavy warmonger, for instance, the Macedon + Persia pack would likely be a good choice.

If I had to choose just one, I would again buy the Indonesia/Khmer one at full price. But my experience with the others (which I picked up this year on sale on third party sites) has been good so far (I haven't played all the civs and scenarios yet).

As others have said, much depends on your play style. Australia is a bit OP; many like that. You get a warmonger and possibly a different sort of culture play with Macedon and Persia. Nubia has a really nice unique archer and a builder flavor.

All of them have a scenario. I like to play one of those maybe once a month to add a bigger variety to gameplay.

I recommend all of them. But budget it out as, say, one DLC a month, or even every other month.

I'm a fan of Poland as far as the DLC goes, but value is high for the double civ downloads...

All of them are pretty good I think. I like Australia and Macedon the best - they are both very strong but so are Nubia and Persia. I avoided Nubia just because the unique archer seems like major overkill for an ancient era unit. I didn't purchase Indonesia or Khmer yet but I might after the game gets patched based on the recommendations here.

Thanks for the useful replies!
I'll probably go with the Nubia DLC and one with two civilizations (atm I'm leaning towards Khmer/Indonesia but it's hard to decide)

Buying one DLC a month is also a good idea.
Good to know that all DLC civs are percieved as interesting so I don't feel like having to avoid one.

FYI, it's probably worth it to check some other sites to see if you can get discounts. For example, Greenmangaming has a coupon code for 22% off today, so you could buy some of the DLC there and save some money.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

I think the two most interesting DLC civs so far are Indonesia and Macedon. Indonesia is very unique and great on the sea/island maps, and Alexander has one of the best UUs in the game (Hetaroi) and a very unique bonus that ties military conquest with science.

Luckily each of these two civilizations come in packs where you get 2 DLC civs, so I'd go with Khmer/Indonesia and Persia/Macedon. Also, while Persia's main strength is probably warmongering (surprise war bonus) they are a good trade/culture civ as well. One of the best Unique Improvements in the game. Khmer is unique as well, but its just a shame that he Domrey is rather useless, great looking unit as well.

Perhaps it's just me but I thought Khmer was a letdown - the domrey unit costs too much to build and the bonus to aqueduct adjecency requires you to actually build aqueducts, which is not something I usually do. Khmer is nowhere near as fun to play as Indonesia, or Macedon or Persia.

I agree, Khmer was a major letdown, but there are some mods that give Khmer a makeover to make them more coherent.

My recommendation would be to wait for a sale, but since we don't know when they're going to discount the DLC and you only want one, Khmer and Indonesia are the best option.

I barely ever use the Domrey, but that's because my wars of choice come very early. The Baray and Holy Site abilities are very cool. They require you to play a bit differenty and give you significant advantages in return. All civ abilities should be like that. Indonesia is also a very interesting coast focused civ )and better at it than Australia or the Dutch.

They also have the best soundtracks of all DLC civs, except Macedon, but I find Macedon's exreme war focus boring.

Indonesia sounds great since I love playing on island maps and I'm usually not too much into domination victory. So I guess, Indonesia & Khemer it will be!

I bought the Viking scenario pack and the Australian dlc. I'm not interested in Vikings though, i bought it because of the additional city states and the new natural wonders, which add to the experience in every game, and not just in the one when you're playing the dlc-civ!

Indonesia is an awesome Civ, their unique building the Kamping gives them a unique flavour. Plus their music is awesome, one of the best themes.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't rank the Khmer as a top tier civ by any means, but just because they're not strong doesn't mean they're not interesting to play as. They force you to change your style to optimize, and especially if you can get reliquaries, then they can be a fun little suicide missionary civ.

I agree, while the Viking DLC was poor value if bought at full price, it has been discounted, and I think you can still find it on sale on sites like g2a games (I'd recommend only picking sellers with positive reviews, however) - and it's the DLC I get the most fun out of across games, because it adds a lot of general content and not just civ-specific stuff.

Pick the one with the civ(s) you think you would enjoy playing against.
I own all the DLC, and IMHO the novelty of playing as a new civilization wears off very fast. But I love having them in my game as opponents!
