Do combats get harder with difficulty level?

I've noticed that using the same units in Chieftain and Prince, I win 9/10 attacks in Chieftain (catapult or chariot vs phalanx or militia), but seem to lose 6/10 in Prince. Yep, if my chariot attacks a militia I will almost always win in Chieftain but lose more often than I win in Prince.

In Chieftan the computer is downed to 0.25 of its original strength\defense point value for every unit.
for warlord it is downed to half .
prince is 0.75.
King is 1 (Fair game).
And Emperor is 1.25 (computer has the advantage)

That's why I prefer King mode.

But I could be inaccurate, but it is something close to that.

This also has something to do with the scoring; that's why it's better IMO to judge the score by the percentage you get. You can get the same score in cheif and emperor, but the percentage will be higher in emperor obviously. That means, even though the cheif game and the emperor gae have the same score, the emperor game was played better.

Well, doubtfully. Though, I don't know.

In the difficulty level number 256(Hardest interesting) there are a very few of fair combats, because usually fight units with absolutely different level:D But happenned such cases as AIs battleship lost to phalanx and bomber lost to militia.

this can even happen sometimes ('just') at chieftain level
with a 'normal' micropose civ.exe 474.05 -
and it happens more often as it is funny.

Here is a nice chart of the differences between the levels.

I think we can all agree that the TTG guy was great. I've read a lot of his old posts (in the dusty achieves) and I have to say: He's almost a mentor to me without knowing it.

But one thing that chart doesn't have is player versus AI combat difficulty.. which we could invesigate and add.

In my opinion, not Barbarians attack, but barbarians DEFENCE.

Because again - on a 256th level barbarians are losing the same way to weak units, but it's almost impossible to beat them, when you attack.

And one more addition - if you make difficulty level lower, than chieftain(also possible) - after some time(or after some reseached advances) you get a technology in one turn no matter where tax slider is set! Because then advances cost NO pulps for human player.

Haha ^^

Questions:
Just to be clear, are you talking about CIV dos ?
What file are you altering? exe or sve
What bytes or words are you altering?
Are you using negitive numbers to get lower than Chieftan ?
What program are you using to do this?
