Do I need visual basic to add units?

I have read Plutark's guide to adding units, but I'm still confused on a couple things?

1. Must I have Gramphos' file, and if so do I need a visual basic program on my computer to use it?

2. Can I just use the "hacked Civ III editor?" Is the most recent version of that program compatible with 1.16f?

3. Are there still elements of the added unit that don't work such as right-clicking, civilopedia entries, icons?

4. Can someone verify that they have added units and played at least one full game and all has gone smoothly?

You won't need visual basic to run the copy tool. However to need VB runtimes, which are too big to include in every update of the tool. If many people requests it I might make a full install when I get to the next tested fully version.

You can use the hacked editor if you wan't to. Some say it is easier, some say it is harder. Have in mind that there are things thet C3CT does the the hacked editor doesen't (as creating unit folders with copied edited inifiles) and allow you to change a map to be flat. As well as the hacked editor does some things that can't be done with C3CT, but with C3CT in combination with the original editor.

You would have to edit the units_32.pcx to make the ERA specific icons work with added units. Anything else would work.

Gramphos,

Does that mean I need to download an earlier version of your tool to get the "VB runtimes" and then download the most recent version? I don't know what VB runtimes are and I'm more than a little confused here.

In the first post of my thread there is links to Microsoft.com. Those files are the VB runtimes needed, and can be installed separately.
