do we have a Irish civ in CFC?

What leader would u suggest? The single rule in this case is "represent a United Ireland, not only one of the old kingdoms". I'm sure I can use MC, but if appear other alternatives and people support, I can do the change ;)

I'll have to think about it.

I do not think the great leader needs to be the leader of all of Ireland. I think a great leader should be the leader of at least part of it. For example, if Ireland was occupied in the northern 1/3 by Viking hoards, but there was a great leader in the south the held them at bay, he would only be ruling some small part. This was only an example, I do not know of such a leader off the top of my head. I will think about it and get back to you. In the meantime I am sure there will be other suggestions here too.

i suggest replacing wellesley with Robert Emmett

U mean replace Arthur Wellesley by Robert Emmett in the leader list? Why not
use both since we have 3 empty spaces?

@Bjornlo: thanks man! When u remember the leader name, post the suggestion ;)

OTHER POINTS: Is this unit that u people r talking about (Irish UU): http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=95290 . I expect it is, it is a awesome unit!

Well, the leader list is that untill now:

Military leaders:
Arthur Wellesley
Eric Dorman Smith
Fitzmaurice
Brian Boru
Robert Emmett

Scientific ones:
George Berkeley
Edmund Burke
Hans Sloane
Ernest Shackleton
Arthur Guinness

Also Winter gave to me this reference: http://www.users.bigpond.com/kirwilli/famous/statesmen.htm

Any suggestion for changes??? I use to have 5 military leaders and 5 scientific ones in my civis.

another military leader you could have would be "fighting" Tom Sweeney, leader of the fenian raids against canada

also Conchobhar MacNessa

yes thats what i ment, add. BTW, bjornlo i think you are thinking of Boru, he was the man who pushed the vikings out of ireland
Yes, that is who I was thinking of. I simply could not remember his name.
Considering the advantages the Vikings had (better weapons, physical size, and so on) his deeds were very notable.

The original IRA was a military force established to free the Irish from British tyranny. However, after the signing of the Anglo-Irish treaty, the IRA split into a pro-treaty Provisional IRA, and an anti-treaty Republican IRA. Both IRA's fought eachother during the Irish Civil War, the Provisional IRA being victorious. The remaining Republican IRA still remained and continued to wage war against the British in North Ireland.

The IRA I was suggesting for the Irish would either be the original Irish Republican Brotherhood, which turned into the Irish Republican Army. You could also make the Provisional Irish Republican Army (aka Provisional Infantry, aka Provo).

By the way, good choice of Arthur Guinness, the creator of my favorite beer.

CivArmy, you should do an English and an Irish Gaelic version of this civilization. I can help you with the Irish Gaelic because I learned a good portion of it, and I know the English and Irish names for the cities.

No, I am insulting murderers, terrorists, their fellow gutter dwelling swine, and any fellow dregs of humanity that feel like grouping themselves in with these scumbags... Bombing non-combatents, and so on. They are no better then the Al-Quida.
Just because you have a reason to want to fight, does not make everything you do ok.

You are probably speaking about US soldiers in Vietnam,Laos, Iraq and so on. Al-Quida is a myth, created to prove your presence in Iraq. But yes, stop talking about IRA. Opinion is like an a*^&)hole, everybody has his own.

I agree totaly :goodjob:

People, let's produce thogeter the Irish civ and let's stop debate IRA, terrorists, USA, Iraq, Al Qaeda and other topics not many related to the Irish Civ :) ;) well, looks like the debate is over now :goodjob: . Thanks friends!

Well, I have some topics:
- Should I call the civ Ireland or ÉIRE?
- Irish is the name and noun of this civ?
- Anyone would like to suggest the city list?

OK, let's produce Irish civ. I prefere to call the civ EIRE. And here is a suggested city list:

Kinda.

Gaels is the gaelic name for ourselves. Gauls spoke Brythonic so Gaul is the same name in a different celtic language. However Gaels saw themselves as related to but different from other Celts. So each group called themselves 'Celts' but saw themselves as different from other tribes and groups....Hmmm..... I didnt describe that very well did I? Anyway, call us Gaels.

Gaelic is the best civilisation name and Gaels the race. Best coz its what we call ourselves. It also lets you include the early scots, including highlanders and gallowglachts, who are also Gaelic.

Best leader Brian Boru or Niall of the nine hostages. Brian coz he famously ended Viking power in Ireland. (Well, to be honest Viking power was broken 50 years before Clontarf, and Vikings fought on both sides in Clontarf. The importance of Clontarf is that it killed so many Viking leaders, and buried the hopes of a Viking revival.)......or....Niall because he was the start of the O'Niell dynasty, and ruled Ireland and Dal Riadha (in scotland), so covers all the Gaels.

There is a LOT of choice for a UU without choosing something devisive like the IRA. Anyway UU's normally come from the civs golden age. And that for us, was what most people call the Dark ages....
So I would suggest a Gallowglacht, Kern or Thane. Followed by maybe the Fianna, Niadh Naisc, Gailianna or even a Highlander.

Actualy the Scots were also speaking Brythonic... derived from the Welsh, before the Irish spread northwards and over to Great Britain (no idea what it was called then). While I also suggested Niall earlier on I must dissent with your evaluation of UUs being attributed to Golden Ages (Germany = WWII Panzer ??? Spain = Conquistador ??? :( pretty dark IMO).

A Golden Age, in this sense, is when the civilisation was dominant and powerful, not necessarily nice. You can't deny that the age of the Conquistadors was the time when Spain was most dominant on the world stage.

;) I surely can: They could have chosen a unit of the Reconquista, the 'Tercio Espanol', having brought along the defeat of the Arab conqueror Emirates and their expulsion from European Soil after 400 years of bloody struggle. The conquistador isn't very reminiscent of Spanish civilization, as their number was limited to only several hundred adventure seekers.

For Germany, either a pre-WWI unit could have worked better, in terms of Golden Age-thingy. i.e. a German Soldier of the 'Franco-Prussian War' :)

England could also have deserved a better unit- something Victorian, or at least Napoleonic... well after they gave the conquistador to Spain one should have thought that England would be given an early 17th century War Galleon- but no, they got an early 18th century one... entirely random choice, for nothing really happend there that would suggest anything golden age like for Britain; the Armada had been defeated long ago (by bloody corsairs under lead of Sir Francis) and the great battles of the Napoleonic time would be far into the future... :D its just random, really.
