Well, we have decided that Russia is our favourit nation. Although they didn't want to trade with as that much, we could boost our relations.
How? - We have an extra Wheat source and Russians lack the Wheat, so we might give it to them as a "gift".
Later on, as soon as it will be possible, we can cancel it and trade it with them instead. In the future we can trade it for Corn (Russians seem to have 2 Corn sources in their range, but it will take them some time to hook them up) or for some gold (but we must research Currency first).
What are your opinons ?

I jsut joined in the game today, so don't really know our past, but
IMHO, I believe we should make friend more with Genghis Kahn, because he is more technologically advanced than all of us, and as it was stated before he seems to be agressive, it would better us if he were our friends, until the status quo changes and we can topple him. For now though, if Old Sari grows, we will need an open borders agreement to get anyway else in the world. You must remember we are a penninsula, and we failed to control any of our surrounding lands, (unless you decide to put the settler to the north of Old sari, look below im providing pictures)

Now as to Russia, they seem weaker then us (which actually is saying something) and I think we should let them grow a little and watch them. Hopefully they'll be an empire witch it's military is to weak to either keep up with ours, or it military is too weak for its size.

Now he are my proposed plans we should settle where the red highlighted tile is:

I also think that we need to gain the upper hand on Germany. All the way to the south (farthest southern land we know of) we should try and place a city. Doing this would allow us to monopolize the silver industry and would also allow us to potentially take one square of copper. I know its a long way off from our empire, but taking a few turns to build escort and garisson units (and one worker) would give us a huge upper hand on Germany. Making a city here and heavily garissoning it would give us a stronghold not only economically, but if our mainland was to be attacked, we'd have one retreat city. Here is the area I'm talking about:

Lastly, I have never played the demogame before, so is there a way I can lobby my ideas. I see a great amount wrong with our civilization (not to be mean), and I'm not experienced enough to run for any offices. Is there a thread for lobbying, or would I just have to make my own threads for each reform I have? Also where can I find out when the next elections are?

just addressing the last part, just start a thread on any problems you see wrong :) or there may also be a thread on such problems, to find out about elections just look at the main forum amongst the rule set but generally they are monthly, you just missed the last set with nominations happening the 28th? of this month i think.

Don't worry about experience. You should have enough experience by the time May's elections take place.

We want to go to war with Genhgis because he is agressive. At some point he will attack us. We'd rather fight a war on our terms than his. Also, right now the Mongols don't have horses, copper, and probably not iron. This is probably the easiest time to pick on such an agressive neighbor. I'm not shooting down your idea, it certainly should be talked about. This is just my opinion.

Oh, and don't worry about being good at the game. Other players including me have fights on who's the worse player.

i beat george by being less active than him (he has a job and everything!:mischief: ) and simply making sarcastic comments like this every now and then!

I'm in complete agreement with Robo's military assesment, and I too favor the aggressive strike now. I am curious though, do we have any intel on whether the Horde is allied with others as yet unknown to us? Or did I miss that briefing somewhere? I admit i have had a lot of posts to read through...

Thanks, i am interested to see how this works.

I have to agree with the war with the Mongols. I believe that whilst they are struggling for resources, we should capitalise.

I also agree with Ice in that Germany should be presented as a potential threat, but also a potential ally. Therefore we should build a city to monopolise on the resources in their area, but also to cover the threat, or use the alliance with Germany. Hope that made sense:S

Well we can not build a city down by the silver.. the maintenace cost would kill our research due to the distance factor. What we can do is capture everything on the way to that site after we get our economy running a bit better but that wont happen for a while yet.

I agree, let us take it from the enemy! Not to mention the moeny we will plunder and the lower maintenance costs by having cities closer to our empire. Besides, i bought a new battleaxe that just begs to be used :)

15. Hence a wise general makes a point of foraging on the enemy. One cartload of the enemy's provisions is equivalent to twenty of one's own, and likewise a single picul of his provender is equivalent to twenty from one's own store.

Very true, maitnence costs would be high, but since it was lready decided to build theaters instead of units, we're now going to have to try and go for the culture, I don't find it wise to go with something and stop halfway. If we build the theaters, maybe after we could build up the ol' military, but by the time the units are done, they (mongols) would probablly of gained access to either horses, copper or iron, or worse, all three.

Anyway my new proposed plan is to go to war with Russia instead. Since Mongolia is agressive, I think they would of built there military a little larger than ours, which presents a problem. Can anybody tell me the intel we've gathered on their troops? (or is that somewhere that I have not seen.) If we have a scout I suggest we open borders with mongolia, get are intel, and get the hell out. Close the open boarders deal ASAP, and declare war the next turn (depending on the size and strength of their army)

*snicker*

I am being fairly liberal with the translation...but cut me some slack, my Mandarin chinese is a bit rusty.:)

ICE,
Robboo made a lily comparison of our two militarys I believe it was on the Sow thread, ot sure where i saw it. And yes, he( and I concur with it) had the same view as you. Something like 3 to 1 Mongolian favor in archers, but when values where settled out it was like 45 strength to 47? Sorry i just dont remember where i saw it. Check Robboo's post. I have checked with SoS and it is his estimate that Russia is not allied, but is very pleased with Mongols and vice versa.

PS Is their a #&$@3@#Q spell checker on this thing and i just am not seeing it????

yer theres a spellcheck in the 'post reply' button but not quick reply, its the little abc button :)

there is? Where? I must be blind.

Hmm...ok that is weird...the spell check button does not appear when i view this at work! but it is indeed here at home...

AHA clicking on it says that i have to have internet explorer...i use Mozilla at work. There is the catch.

Well, but back to my original post. What do you think about the idea of giving Wheat to Russians ?
If they go to war with us, ok. If they don't and we attack Mongols, we could end-up with Russians saying to us "You attacked our friend" as they have Open borders now.
If we give them that our extra Wheat it should make them more happy about us and they should be more willing to go to war against Mongols with us. And even if not, then it should help getting relations better again after that eventual "You attacked our friend".

Your opinions ?

I don't know...it has been my experience that you have to have a SUBSTANTIAL trade relation and other things to get any one to declare war for you. I do think we could use it to improve relations after a war though.
