Yeah, mercy is for the weak. If another civ attacks me, I take them down and give no peace. They must be punished for their insolence.

From the start I make a DEATH List of civs that have attacked or demanded
tribute from me  . On higher difficulties you usually have no choice but
to give in to the first few demands or get smashed/dogpiled  . But they
go on the 'LIST' for future :hammer: .

I never forget betrayal or sneak attackers. Funny but I try to be as far away from Civs I consider to be friends. The ones on my continent are usually doomed :). However if their last city just happens to be on a small peninsula I just leave them there to have as a pet ally. Funny how those "allies" declare wars on greatest empires on my command. Sometimes they are more loyal than my bigger allies.

Depends on what mood I'm in, or how they've treated me in the past. I like imposing harsh peace treaties on them, though they always prefer death to giving me any techs for peace. If they've REALLY annoyed me, they die. Simple

Sometimes I decide not to wipe out the other civilizations when they give me a good deal for peace, or I am starting to run low on units, or I just don't feel like attacking them any more. A common tactic I use is to take out all but one or two junky cities and get everything they will give me for peace.

As Cultural victories are my preferred manner of winning, there comes a time when I tone down the expansion and get to work on cultural improvements. Also, if a Civ has treated me kindly, even if I have the chance to wipe them out, I will spare them. It depends whether or not I am playing for competition, too. If I am, I am more likely to do what will garner more points, and land and population are the key factors.

Almost never, well only sometimes if the civ who I'm conquring has a city on a remote island, then they can just live there until all the others are destroyed...
Usually i like to "take care" of the weakest civs in the game, I always make mutual protection pacts and right of passages to the weakest(not afraid of being betraied, cause I know i can beat them easily..)I also give them my extra recources, for redicciolus prices(~100 gold, world map, slaves)
And I always destroy the weakest civ last(only if some stupid AI doesn't destroy them, before my backup forces arrive)

I used to do this, but then I decided to play defiantly and never give in. I remember I once withstood simultaneous assaults by the Babyloninans, Japanese, and Romans and lived to tell the tale. Of course, I built only defensive units, but it was worth it to feel all big and strong.

I do, when I'm not going for a military victory. I'd rather everyone be alive at the end.

It is good to see the strong are wining out over the weak a civ should be destroied the erased from all known exsistance,

Here are my steps to "eradication" (not meaning to sound like a hitler guy as these are just computer numbers and i in no way suport any pyscos like hitler)
1.Conquer every city, then build workers (slaves) till i get everyone of theres to size 1
2. force the workers (slaves) to fix all land
3. Bring all workers to capitial
4. disband (exsacute) all of them
5. Destroy any hint of there civilization
6. Overall plan-wipe out any civ that knew of them

Mercy isnt an option for me usually, unless the civ in question has helped me out durring that particular game.... but betray me and suffer the WRATH of the WORLD!!! I love dogpileing on the strongest civ, if only to see them slip from number one to below the Zulu (which everyone here knows is pretty low!) I dont see the point in disbanding ALL of the slaves though... you dont have to pay for them and it's pretty funny when you still have Greek slaves from the Ancient Age cleaning up the pollution around your Modern Armor..... I think that would the the ultimate humiliation for about any Civ... HA HA NO I DONT FORGIVE YOU! DEATH IS TOO GOOD! CHOP DOWN YOUR OLD TREES MWAHAHAHAAAA!!!! I like to rename their old capitols too....

I sometimes show mercy if I happen to like the other civ, but it depends how far they push me. For the rest... nuke them all!

You can get some really sweet peace offerings if you try.

I, too, usually wind up the only kid on my continent, so no, no mercy there. There may be temporary amnesty for some if I'm stretched a bit thin from just wiping out someone else or wasn't ready to go there yet. But evenually everyone is going down. I may have a small pet civ or two on nearby islands. Civ on other continents I'm a lot more leinient with. If I'm playing a commercial civ I'll maybe take a couple on the sides near me, esp for controll of a luxury or strat resource. Everyone else get's stomped just enough to ensure they're no longer a threat. Unless of course they start another war w/ me . . .

I generally push them off of whatever land mass we both occupy. Of course, If that means their total destruction.......I agree that it's merciful to not burn down their cities. And I'll generally leave at least one city for them, unless they've attacked me first. Then I'll drive my enemies before me, and hear the lamentations of their women! :nuke: :smug: :nuke:

Funny you guys seem to play contients, i play super one contient so if on civ pisses me off they are gone, i had a huge civ that stretched from Coast to Coast on standard super contient map and the french were below me and cut off always fun to eradicate them as noone could have meet them i blocked off all entrances by land and put my ships in the water all around them- i had a huge navy- and i killed off any ship or unit that came near

lol- i'm glad i'm not alone! If a civ has demanded tribute from me etc.. i make it my business to get my own back. If they've taken advantage of my weakness, i will take advantage of theirs. Unless i have to make peace, i will destroy an enemy. I will only show mercy if i don't want to share a border with a stronger opponent, and/or my cities are in civil disorder because of the war and/or i need to free up troops for another front.

funny i just made them pay it back to me with Rate of inflation (ie intrest)

Mercy is truely for the weak
I like to be ruthless and completely destroy a civ when i'm at war because if you don't they come back later for another fight so its better put their lights out earlier than later.
