Expect Irony.
I used to when I was a teen. In fact, at age 12, w/in a month or two of finding women sexually attractive (rather than just being asexually curious about them) I completely broke out and didn't clear up until I was 17.
It was the bleakest part of my life. I felt like I was cursed. I let it affect my self-esteem, my relationships, my school-work -- everything. No excuses -- I made my own problems worse -- but it was a drag.
I was even allergic to Benzoil Peroxide, so the primary means of over-the-counter treatment was useless to me.
Although I grew up in the 80s and most of my contemporaries wax nostalgic for them -- in gushy, often embarrassingly reverent ways -- to this day that decade makes me cringe.
So in the hope that it may help one of you who is pimply and suffering for it, I am offering this skin treatment system that dramatically improved my complexion. I trust that I won't cause CFC to become a girly skin-care site: this is just one thread, started by one humble former god-cursed acne suffering dork.
(The recipe is from "Blue Eyeshadow Should be Illegal." My Mom found it and although I hated talking about my terrible skin to anyone, she forced me to try this treatment.)
Part ONE -- wash your face two or three times a day:
Cetaphil brand cleanser or a knock-off (Rite Aid sells a generic version that is much cheaper.)
*Stop using soap on your skin! Use Cetaphil instead. That stuff rocks. It's the most expensive part of this program, but if you do noting else, use it. Soap dries out your skin and leaves residue that clogs your pores. You're almost better off not washing your face.
Part TWO -- exfoliate once every other day:
Baking Soda
*GENTLY scrub your face with baking soda. It clears away dead skin cells MUCH better than those harsh apricot scrubs, which will leave you red and damaged. Baking Soda is PH balanced, mild and dirt cheap.
Part THREE -- the mask (once a day
Unflavored Milk of Magnesia
*Put a thin layer of MoM on your face for about 20 minutes every night before you go to bed. The magnesium in is excellent at drying out your slick, oily skin. If you feel like your skin is getting a little too dry, use a moisterizer (Cetaphil works well for this) to balance. You want your skin to feel clean, but not too dry or tight. Try not to get any in your mouth -- MoM is a powerful laxative... (ulp!)
Part FOUR -- disinfect (as needed, after washing -- no more than once/day
Hydrogen Peroxide
*If you have any open blemishes or exceptionally red areas, dab then w/ Hydrogen Peroxide to disinfect the little wound. It's a LOT milder than rubbing alcohol (which will dry out your skin.) Try not to get any in your hair or it will bleach it.
I hope this helps you. It certainly helped me, and I would have been grateful as a pimply kid to have the advice from an anonymous source rather than having to discuss it face to face.
