Do you like CIV V more when... HISTORICAL situations occur? Like, you're playing as an isolated Montezuma and suddenly a technologically-superior Spanish naval invasion is on your doorstep?

or

Do you like CIV V more when... NON-HISTORICAL situations occur? As in, that one time you fought that great Zulu-Indonesia war, where you were able to spread Judaism to the East Indonesian heathens?

I don't know how to make polls, though I think this would be a great poll question. :crazyeye:

I like both situations equally. My favorite thing right now is to load up a 22-Civ TSL Earth map and watch as both historical and non-historical situations occur.
For example, in the game I've been playing lately, I successfully conquered London as Spain. I thought that was pretty cool: "Hey, the Armada WAS a success!" Then Sweden stepped in and took over Nottingham. Now THAT'S Historical Accuracy...

Historical scenario-ish gameplay usually bores or even annoys me.
I don't get excited though either when randomly non historical situations which seem bizarre or impossible from a realistic viewpoint occur.

When the Christian Inca land on the Mediterranean coast slaughtering the bow and spear wielding sacrifice cultist Spanish with cannons and muskets that doesn't feel so unusual and weird when just 30 mins earlier I was fighting a space ship battle with my lazer from the eyes shooting dinosaur race and their high technology ships against the fleet of the gay jewish undead hitler and his nazi zombie fleet.

I have to say I enjoyed a recent domination game in which Poland took the capitols of Germany, Japan and Rome... but that never happened and it is not likely to happen again!

Hmm, I do compere events in civ to the real life counterpart, but ether out come will amuse me. One time I found England and Spain having a feud, and Spain was also using Catholicism. They had a war, and Spain destroyed and English city :/

But another time, I was napoleon, and I found Bismark on my door step, so I DoW'ed him, and captured Berlin quite quickly, and reveled in the irony :cowboy:
(I also seem to always go order as Russia too, wonder why :p)

Random historical events that happen in game can be cool! In one of the first games I played, Greece took it to Persia early in the game and wiped them out. I thought that was neat at the time. That was before I learned that Alexander goes all out war early in the game in every game...

This is a good question and I have a bit more preference towards non historical because the historical already happened and we already know who wins especially in the roman historical simulations. Anyway I was able to see a non historical simulation where there were mongolians vs Zulu and they were both using their uus, (keshik, impi). I was surprised though because you would think that the impies could counter keshik but not in the simulation that I was watching but the Zulu lost. I've seen fewer civilization brave new world players though and I think its interesting to see a rivalry that was non historical. I doubt a lot of people feel this way though.

I play random maps because I like the odd ahistorical situations that arise. "Jerusalem desires Confucianism." Or America loses its capitol to the Shoshone, etc.

Historical. One time on a 22 civ world map, though I left out any native american civs, Spain & Portugal started colonizing like mad, & then I as England got a huge fleet & sank the Spanish fleet. Spanish Armada had been sunk! Besides ahistorical things happen every game, nothing to be excited about.

That must be some good DLC you're playing.

It's not necessarily that I like it more, but it is amusing when historical things happen. I get a good chuckle when the Ottomans annex Byzantium, or when Rome founds Catholicism (Roman Catholicism), or when the English and French have an in-game rivalry (Especially funny to a Canadian).

Meh, CiV isn't anyhow historical. If I want something historical, I stay away from CiV and go for Paradox Interactive. I think the best thing in CiV is the randomness and the lightness, opposed to hardcore strategy games.

CiV could get historical accurate with some specific events like in the year 1453, the Ottoman Empire conquers the Byzantine Empire and the Hundred Year Wars' end. Or like have Christopher Columbus be born in 1451 in Genoa and in 1492 let him sail west.

I like when non-history wars happen. For me, civ5 is all about making my own history. Though when I do see something somewhat historically accurate, I usually get a good laugh out of it.

One thing I love is playing with the RED modpack, which adds ethnic diversity. On a recent map as Zulu, my neighbors were the Songhai and Ethiopia. It was like lil' Africa!
