Do you like wine? What is your favorite?

It seems to me that in the US the drinking of wine has snobby, aristrocratic overtones which is really too bad. Of all of the alcoholic beverages it is the one that is most conducive to moderation and has several different compounds in it's red version that have positive effects on one's health. I like many wines but my favorite is Pinot Noir from Oregon, America's most underrated wine, and in good vintages perhaps it's best. It is especially appreciated on cold snowy days like today.

Do I like to whine? Of course I do! Wait.....

Regular wine, yes, I like it. I haven't tried much white wine to form an opinion, but some fruity red wines I like, as well as others with more alcohol content. Don't ask me about brand names, I really don't know anything about wines. But, I hear New York wine is pretty good!*

*Yes, that was an advertisement. Now buy, buy, buy!

I'm 14. I shouldn't have an opinion :p

You shouldn't, but many underage people still do.

I like wine, but I don't have a favorite because I haven't tried very many.

I almost never drink wine, but a little bit every now and then like at communion or New Year's leaves me with a good opinion.

I'm 18 but underage. Personally, I hate the taste of any alcoholic beverage. And being half-Indian, i'm not sure how well I could even take alcohol, seeing that it's not very common habit for Indians.

I'm Jewish ;)

I don't know... I don't dislike it, but there's nothing in the taste that has me going "Hmm, this is really good!"... ;) :D Just as with the smell of cigarette smoke... I don't get what the whole point is!

Yes, I hate the drinking laws, too. There's always a way around it, though. ;)

I'm more of a beer fan myself, (not mass-market Amercian swill like Bud or crappy imports like Heine. I love Bavarian Hefeweizens and Dopplebocks., but anyway...) but lately I've developed a taste for wine. I really haven't had any quality wine, but I like Riunite Lambrusco (which is insanely cheap). I like red wines much better than white wines or blushes, and really dislike White Zinfandel. BTW, I am 21 years old, so I'm not old enough to be considered an aristocratic snob. :p

Yeah, I'm more of a beer man myself too, however, with the current U.S./California wine glut, prices have dropped dramatically, and one can get a very decent bottle of vino on the cheap. As a result, I've been drinking much more wine these days. I'm partial to the tang of whites, but a decent bottle of Pinot Noir or a nice Merlot will work in a pinch!

Yes. Chianti of course..

I like wine because it is stronger than beer but not as strong as hard liquor. I usually drink vodka or wine or mead.

Pinot Grigio is good. Had some Australians that were good also. A cherry wine that was sweet and had about a glass and a half in the bottle. Shiraz is tasty also. I've never spent more than $30 on a bottle of wine so the 'snobby' stuff I can't tell you about.

As for mead, Rocky Mountain Meadery is okay. Had one at Bennigan's that was super honey sweet. More of a desert mead. Stormerne gave me info on it and I am glad. A nice change from wine and no hangover.

On a sidenote, the term 'honeymoon' comes from mead. :goodjob:

Would sake be counted as wine for this? You know, since it's referred to as "rice wine"?

Although I've always been a red fanatic, with a lean toward a good strong bottle of Chilean, I have to admit I've been won over to whites by the absolutely fantastic 2003 Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Works well with a good autumn meal, too, e.g. something warm and homespun but still light like roast chicken and gravy with roasted vegetables.

Try it, I highly recommend it. :D

The US wine glut is one of the best things to happen to wine consumers here in years. As part of my job I follow retail and wholesale prices. Suggested retail prices have dropped probably 20% in the last 3 years but beyond that some vintners are becoming so desperate to clear out their backlogged inventories that many are offering one-time deals of 50% to 70% off. It is definitely the year of the sale, at all price and quality levels (except the very top). I would hate to be trying to export wine to the US right now.

I am unusual among Americans in that I love tea but hate coffee, love wine but hate beer.

I refuse to become a wine snob, though. I just can't take it that seriously. (I have it on fairly good authority that real French people are not, on the whole, wine snobs. They just drink it instead of sniffing it and swishing it and carrying on about it.) All I can say is, I like what I like. And so far, I like Merlot and Zinfandel and a couple of others whose names I can't recall.

I also drink cognac, which is a kind of brandy, which is a kind of wine. I like Courvoisier, though the one time I had it, it seemed a little strong. My usual cognac of choice is Salignac, though I'm quite open to the possibility that there may be better ones out there. I've only been of legal drinking age for a couple of years, and I'm such a light and infrequent drinker that I haven't tried half the things most people my age have.
