I always used to play to win be top Civ at all costs,

but i am gonna try a different angle, and do the BEST for my Civilisation, so i may finish 2nd or 3rd in the ranks, but I wont have population losses etc..

i.e I just won a war, but the nuclear fall out was terrible.

i couldv'e made peace, come in 3rd or 4th and had a better score.

(does this make sense? cos i re-wrote it twice already.....)

I used to play for winning.

AM i right in thinking that its not BEST to be first in FAMILY SIZE? i.e does a healthier civilisation actually have a SMALLER average number of children?

or is that taken into account in the demographics?

Well...
When I'm losing I play to build a great civilization.

I guess it depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

Most of the times ,i play withought waging war ,but sometimes i play the "mongol horde tactic" (just build a lot of cavalery (no defense unit's) capture some city's ,sell the captured city improvements and rush buy new cavalery (and do this to the whole world))
You'll start with 50 cavalery ,and end up with 300.

It won't get you a super high score ,but it's fun to have other deity civ's tremble of fear of you (and paying you lot's of money)

Small family size means you're civ growth is plateauing, youre growth is being stunted. You don't want that. You want to be continuously growing. The higher your family size is the faster you're growing. You should never play a game in which all cities have stopped growing by the end.

I never play to "win" really. I want to be the head honcho and all but when all is said and doe, fun is all that matters. Taking winning in civ too seriously is unhealthy if ya ask me

Not that anyone did

Well you know - to me winning and growing a large empire is the same thing, I always play to win by having a large empire!!!

Actually I can't say that I'm qualified to talk to you about your problem, because I wage all my wars before any of my opponents get nukes - I really hate those things....

But then again you can't really say that I wage all that many wars - usually I conquer one city per Civ - the capital because that's the only city I can't just buy and that I think is a hell of a lot easier.

Lately, I've been trying to build my cities to the max & conquer everybody else at the same time. And by and by, I've discovered that, it's an exercise in futility...So, I've gone back to my old ways. To sum up my philosophy I'm going to use a quote...I believe Yellow Beard said it best, "RRRRR, I'll kill anybody that gets in the way of me killin anybody!!!"

Listen, strange women lying around in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system government.

In the beging (when I was Newbie) I only build not more than 5 city's with lot's of improvents (Well ALL the improvements) And had those city's at 32 level, when in the end all the buiding were made I started to create an small army, Rushed to every one's capital (I Loved to take all the headcity's in one turn)

But nower days I play for the money I try to get as many trade routes as possible

and have like 350 a turn on income!! you can do what you like than!
Rush buy all most every thing!

I am trying to reach 900 A turn on Income ( Am now on 346

In the words of an old friend of mine... (he used to coach a men's baseball team and people used to complain that he took it too seriously)

"I know it's just a game and only for fun... but it's a hell of a lot more fun when you WIN"

LOL

I usually play to destroy all other civs(leave a couple of puppet citys)and after there gone a forgoten I try and build my perfect Empire!

I like to build a huge glorious empire then kill all
