I don't really play scenarios, but I will play some mods. I find that in scenarios I just have a lack of interest - I know the layout of the map, where units are, what civs are strong, etc, etc. It's not as exciting for me, because I know everything, except how the game will end. But with a mod, I can still have some nice rule changes, yet a random map that is just like the epic game. However, I do think there are some nicely created scenarios out there, and I'm glad they are there, I just don't play them... (I didn't even play the Firaxis Conquests much - they were nicely designed, but apart from Mesopotamia (I think it is the best one), the others didn't compare to the epic game).

I don't, because they all seem to require Conquests... but I played user-created scenarios for Civ II a lot. If I don't get Conquests for Christmas I'll buy it and start playing UC scenarios. :) I've noticed some that look really cool.

never really got in civ3 scenarios, although I loved them in civ2, must be the missing events capability, that was so great in Civ2

there are a handful of civ3 scenarios out there that are fantastic.

some are centered around warfare, others around a combo of production & warfare while others have a variety of other neat and intersting additions.

finding ones that don't crash is the the trick but i will admit that there are many that run properly.

well, I liked the Ancient Mediterrean Mod, but it is a Mod, although it has a map.

what workarounds for the missing events capability are used?

No, I really don't. I've d/l'ed DyP and TAM and have started a game on each, but I've yet to finish either. Perhaps I should, but I more often prefer the stock game with a few selected fan-made graphics (Snoop's terrain, soft mines, and natural borders). Of course, I do use the GOTM mod when I've got the time for a GOTM. I've not even completed one of the stock scenarios in C3C. Which is wierd, because I loved a select few of the Civ2 scenarios, like Napoleon and WWI.

the only scenario I like are the world maps and occasionally the realistic world scenario

oh, definitely try a select few Civ3 scenarios then.

there are 2 WWII scenarios out there that are well worth trying (Barbarosa & WW2 Global).

"The Great War" is a fine WWI scenario and i've created one (Age of Imperialism) that covers the yrs 1903-1914.

None of the scenarios on this site come close because there is something wrong with each one. Firaxis may skimp but at least what they release is functional and completed.
Not every one, but many yes. The problem of Firaxis scenarios is too simple and basic for my taste. Then again, if I wasn't modding this game woldhave ended up in the garbage long before Conquests came out. Civ 4 will be far better.

very very rarly plsy scenarios.. cannot stand the loading times.... but often i play mods...i like the changes people make, but prefere it on smaller/random maps

it was a very basic scripting language for Civ 2 scens, but it was great. you could make things like make units at a certain time and place, e. g. a rome scenario with a popping hun army in the late empire or give money to a player, destroy a civ, make text messages etc., all with IF - WHEN clauses, like giving money to a player for killing a certain unit/building a certain wonder. As you are a Scenario maker, I am sure you can imagine which possibilities and flavour this gave to scens.

I hope so they will be back in Civ 4 since it seems to be a standard in other games nowadays.

yeah...i kinda remember that now.

jeesh, the time that would save me making civ3 scenarios.

however, i've found very creative ways around these civ3 defects.

you did? I guess I'll try your Imperialism scenario when I have the time then

I love to see how different users portray different events. Though I mostly stick with modern era and industrial era scenarios.
