Do you play with DirectX9 or 10/11?

The reason I ask is because I've tried both and found that I don't experience crashes/freezes on DX9 but get them fairly frequently on DX11 even with the new patch.

Just wondering if this is unique to me or if everyone has the same experience?

10/11 - 9 is buggy on Win7 which is my OS.

What operating system are you using / other system specs? Also you might message a mod and ask to move this to the tech support forum.

I'm on windows 7.

Intel® CoreTM i5 650 processor.
8GB4 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333Mhz - 4 DIMMS.
NVIDIA G310 GeForce®.

Playing DX10/11 on Win7 equipped with 4gb ram, phenom II 945 and a HD5850.
I have to say that I didn´t experience any problems at all stabilitywise, not a single crash or lockup. Works like a charm on the technical side. Left me quite puzzled tbh with so many folks having severe problems...

Hmm. So you have older hardware than I do and no issues. I'd guess the issue is probably with the newer hardware then, not with CiV.

I'm playing on Windows 7 with 4GB DDR3 and an Core 2 Quad 2.3 Ghz + GeForce 9800 GT - i've only had one or two crashes ever (mostly when i still had 2GB DDR2 RAM)

My guess is you're experiencing problems because although Windows 7 doesn't like the dx9 version, your videocard (the GeForce 310) isn't anywhere near the level of the rest of your system (which is a very solid gaming system). It's essentially a rebranded GeForce 210 (the cards are quite literally one and the same) and neither is particularly good.

Try upgrading your video card to a high end card or, if price is an issue, a igh end card from a couple of generations ago - like the GeForce 9800 GTX etc. If you can, get a GeForce 460 GT as that should run the game forever with no problems.

If it isn't a hardware issue then i dunno, ask the more experienced guys down in the tech forum.

Yes, the only drawback on your configuration compared to mine seems to be the graphics. Google said the g310 is identical to the g210 but equipped with faster ram... maybe some driver issue on that, who knows :-/ Lets await further feedback, maybe someone has the same graphics set and can shed some light on this ;) Good luck anyways!

edit: Damn you revoran for typing while I type the same stuff myself :)

I've got vista and can only run dx 9...11 slows to a crawl..and comparing the two 11 graphix dont look much better anyhoo

I've used both (on Win7 64-bit). When I playing on playing a very large map, I use DX9 for the slightly better performance. When I want maximum eye candy, I use DX10/11.

Not really sure why you're having crashes, maybe something hardware related. As someone else said, the video card could be better, the rest of your system is definitely good. I'm running Windows 7 with a Quad Core 2.9Ghz processor, a 1G Radeon 5750, and 4 gigs of RAM (as a comparison to your system) and I haven't had a single crash yet after almost 50 hours of playing. And that's with DX10/11. So yeah, maybe something related to that, because at least in my experience the game is very stable.

Win 7 64 - Dx 11 goodness all the way!!

I am still getting stupid tundra ketchup spots though /grr

My Core i7, with ATI 4870 manages DX11 well.

I use DirectX 9 - dX 10/11 mashes up the fonts.

Ha. That's the 2nd time in a row, I've posted under you Kiwiboy.

I've tried both, and honestly I can't see any difference (I have DX10 9600GT, maybe that's why).

If you can't see the difference, go with DX 9.
It depends on your videocard, but my HD5750 have serious problems to display 1920x1200 with DX10/11. With DX9 everthing is fine.
Windows 7 64bit and no stability issues (stable as a rock sofar, boring as a rock too...lol)

I played (not "play") Civ V on a system with Windows 7 64 and a XFX 5850. DirectX 11 is my choice and I haven't had a problem with it.

My toolbar is cut off when on DX9. I use Radeon HD5770 btw

Had a few crashes on Dx10/11 on my comp, and very noteable slow downs on both versions if the save/load function was used alot in the same game. Even had a game crash constantly if it got loaded..

I'm trying to use DirectX 9 beacause like the original poster, DX 10/11 is a kind of a crash mode. Either I happen to try to load a game after making some bad move or just to load a different game and it automatically crashes, either it crashes itself after some time.
I say I'm trying to use DX 9 since it takes a dozen of unsuccessful attempts to manage to actually load the game. When it does not, the task managers shows a Civilization V.exe thread doing nothing and occupying something like 8 MB of RAM which quickly disappears silently. So that's very annoying.

I'm on Windows 7 64 bits with a Core 2 Duo at 3 GHz, 6 GB of RAM and a GeForce 8800 GTX. Everything in the software side is up to date as far as I know, so I'm still pretty annoyed every time I'm launching the game.
