Do you think animated time of day will be in Civ VII? Do you want the feature to return?

  • Yes, it will return. Don't worry about it. Perhaps, Firaxis is still working on the feature.

Occasional rain would be nice too, or snow if your civ is mostly in the desert.

Maybe im crazy

Edit: im def crazy cause i said snow in the desert. Lets pretend I said the arctic....

I like the idea, aesthetically, but it would have to be very ephemeral and occasional not to affect readability (or be mistaken for a natural disaster).

I have never turned on the animated day/night cycle in 4000+ hours of playing Civ VI.

I have also never turned on the day/night cycle in the game Anno 1800 despite 2000 hours or so in that game - even though some really beautiful screen shots can be produced in both games using the night part of the cycle.

That's because the night part of the cycle in both games Detracts from gameplay: makes it harder to see what's going on and what you need to react/act upon. Except for setting up purty screenshots, it is a Negative Influence on the game play - at least, on My game-play, which is, frankly, all I'm concerned with.

So, if they want to attract to the purty screenshot crowd, by all means include it, but also include an Optional version, and it will remain gathering dust in the bowels of my computer for as long as I play Civ VII.

Everything that makes the map feels more organic and dynamic is a welcome. I would also add Solar Storms and Eclipses at this point as the Moon colonization project, in a far, far away galaxy... and the option to disable it for low spec gpus * *

I don't like the cycle per se, but I REALLY love the option to set which one I want. Millennia wouldn't look half as bad with a better sun position.

I like it. It's certainly not a make or break feature, but a nice little touch. Though I will add when in a dark age in civ 6 it can get a bit too dark for my tastes. I hope they don't do any of that map shading type of thing in civ 7 for crisis mode for example.

Seasons too, but that may be asking a bit much

I remember a mod/scenario for Civ 2 I believe it was had seasons. It was a WW2 scenario. So it was cool when the map would change and there would be snow on the ground in the winter. And iirc that affected movement modifiers? It's been a long time, I can't remember.

It doesn't make sense for the vanilla civ 7 due to the time scale. But it would be cool if this were moddable for scenarios/mods.

I'll be the last person to say Civ6 was too saturated...until the Golden Age oversaturization filter kicked in...

If there is one thing I am passionate about for Civ 7, it's that I do NOT want dynamic day and night cycles as an option. I really disliked it in previous entries and I would not want it ruining Civ 7 for me

An option (meaning it’s optional…) that other players actively enjoy but you can totally ignore would “ruin” Civ 7 for you?

Night time made things harder to see so I always disabled it. It's not like Civ is some sniper shooter game where it's more immersive if darkness clouds your vision. I want to be able to see the stuff on the map. If they bring it back, I hope they keep it as something you can easily disable with no modding or command line edits.

Civ 6 game had it and it was very immersive especially with my modern wonders and electricity buildings.

Removing it from Civ 7 is a sin and makes the game look way more static.

If they did add it, an option (or mod) to tie the day progress to the era progress could be fun, w sunrise at the start, sunset when the crisis begins and ending at night
