I wonder what will happen with multiple players choosing the same civ. Since it sounds like everyone progresses together, and your leaders are unique - it sounds like duplicate civs might be fine?
I would like to have duplicates, or one civ splitting in two for that matter.
If there is an order of choosing: maybe based on acquired legacy points in the previous age? I hope it’s not the stupid player goes first as with turns in general - and that wouldn‘t work in MP anyway.

Initially I was less inclined to believe we could see a future era in an expansion, but who knows. What I thought is it's so modular it could easily be turned into a kind of save file and jumping off point for a SMAC or BE type spin-off. You could play from scratch or import your civs and legacies.

Info is probably wrong, but, it could also have been misinterpreted, its not that the game ends in WWII its that they only included civs and leaders that existed before WWII the same way they refrain from including alive people in the games.

I don't think the idea is great from the perspective of the player engaging with a civilisation. To be the leader is the natural way to do this but a leader only ever leads one civilisation. To say that civilisations evolve so this is mirroring reality is also somewhat inaccurate Civs die quickly and new ones arise, possibly with similar geographical context, possibly with similar religious context etc but usually with uprising, revolt, new leaders and a new name - obviously to distance itself from the old one.
That doesn't mean that it won't help with the ****ache of the rounds above say 170 in Civ6, which frankly can get very tedious.
If it were me, then I'd simply give the option of playing 1 or 2 of the ages/epochs/timebands, whatever, amend the goals and still play it as one civ. This would give a shorter but still satisfying game with interest (as long as the goals are set well). That seems to be what they are doing with some string and glue to weave things into a multi age epic, which is effectively 3 or 4 single age games.
I mean, I like Lord of the Rings, I like Dune, but I have to be in the mood and be reasonably awake to watch them. I find 1.5 or 1.75 hours faster paced films much more entertaining and much more bearable even if they do suffer from lesser plots, actors, scenery etc.
I'm probably in the minority here but I also don't need cinematic, realistic graphics in games. Yes they are great to watch a few times, but after a while they just get in the way of playing the game so I turn them off where I can. For the time and effort involved in actually creating them and in creating the marketing pieces hyperboling it they could have spent a fraction of this in making sure things like being able to truly play the game from the keyboard as well as a mouse or a graphics tablet rather than the current mish mash in Civ 6 where you can do rudimentary things with the keyboard but everything from earlier versions has been lost. OR actually having a turn log you can inspect to find out what died when without having real time reporting switched on which takes hours in the early turns and days in the later ones.
Yes I'll probably try it but I think there will be a lot of roundabouts to go with the swings.
