Do you think Civ V is doomed?

It is pretty funny that people are throwing dirt on Civ V after a few months.

2k has confirmed more patches (plural) and presumably we will see expansions/DLC.

People have legitimate complains on the state of the game right now, but to say it can't be fixed is pretty silly. Do people remember how many patches Civ 4 had (and expansions)?

People are playing Civ V (still in the top 10 of games played on Steam, behind some huge first person shooter games). The devs are still supporting it. People just use negativity to pass the time.

What!!!??? Civ rev is a terrible dumbed down Civ-game. Civ 5 is a masterpiece. The stability issue in mp and the bad AI for those liking single player is a bit devastating, but it will improve. This is coming from a guy that has played all civ games from 1991, and played them all alot lot lot. (Well, if you look away from Civ Rev of course). Civ 5 is played for 600 hours already, the other games I played with the same enthusiasm as well (but not Civ Rev of course). I'm a lifelong Civfanatic.

I only play mp these days, haven't played sp since Civ3. That can of course affect my opinions abit. But even with those anoying bugs in MP; If I can play a mp to the the endgame, with few quitters or droppers because of bugs, god damn what a great game experience it is. With some expansions and even more meat to the bones of this game.... oh holy cow, the sky is the limit for Civ5. A pitty Shafer had to go.

You need to take a seat and speak slowly to your fellow doctor about disturbing voices that inspire that wall of text...

Yes Football Manager is a well known FPS using a ball as weapon to shoot down enemies...

And the funniest thing is that it is not Steam exclusive game (you can play Civ V only using Steam), so there is plentry of players that are playing Football Manager without Steam.....

Take note that the same is for other games not steam related in the chart...

you prick. Football is incredibly popular across the whole world and is damn right more fun than that stupid american garbage ass touching american football.

Just trying to parse this... Couple different ways you can go.

"damn right more fun than that stupid-american garbage-ass touching american football"
"damn right more fun than that stupid american-garbage ass-touching american football"
"damn right more fun than that stupid american garbage-ass touching-american football"

All variations on a similar theme, but with some subtle nuances differentiating them.

By the way, all...
I loved SMAC.
I loved Civ 3.
And...

I think you misinterpreted the post you're replying to a bit. Turn on your sarcasm detector and read it again. ;)

Civ 5 is not a terrible game but the biggest mistake of Firaxis is call it Civ 5 because it's not. It should be Civ Rev 2. That's why this game is the biggest disappointment of the year.

Well, personally I don't give a damn about if CiV is doomed or not.
Seriously, I don't care.
I'll definitely will play the game for another 3-4 months regardless; probably, not more, but at the time I expect some more playable mods to appear.

In fact, when I've seen first preview of CiV, I already suspected that core won't be great... but then, I've said to myself: "Well, after you were introduced to RFC, you never played a single one core BtS game. Most likely, you will never play any core CiV game after first good mod appearing also. Mods just are, and will be, greater that core. So why to bother? Just treat release as mod constructing tool".

I've left Civ5 running while I sleep and in the background as I surf the web. I've got 509 hours "played", but I'm guessing only around 100 of those hours are legit.

I don´t think its doomed, in fact I play it a lot (400hours) now.

I´m not going back to civ4 anymore, I like CiV better, of course there are some things that bothers but what can you do.

The scenarios haven´t reached the same level as in Civ3. I wonder how many have downloaded the DLC:s from Steam, I have bought Babylon and the Inca Spain DLC, they were pretty nice.

 right back at you. Obviously I didn't list every game. For a turn based strategy game to be anywhere near the top is impressive.

Both the COD games require Steam to play online. The fact that Civ V is close to that means a lot of people are playing it.

Just keep on hating Civ V, but you can't deny that a good number of people out there like it (or are being forced to play it at gunpoint).

Facts > :crazyeye: :king:

I don't hate civ V, i don't like it as the previous civ games. I'm just playing Football Manager instead (and CIV IV for multi, because it works).:D

Oh and a lot of people like idiotic things (like tv shows as Big Brother), that does not make them better!

Yeah, I'm sure that's where most of the players come from.

I always start up a resource intensive game I don't like just to pad the numbers on Steam.

Every time I post these numbers Civ V is always right around the same spot. People just can't accept that 20,000+ people are playing it right now.

Sure, a few may be getting a sandwich, listening to music albums backwards, or negotiating peace in the middle east. The numbers are still there though, plain as day.

Future or not, I just hope enough of the community stay with or come back to Civilization 4 to keep its mod scene alive

I can accept that, it's a fact that out of 1 million copies sold there are only 20k playing it... And for a strategic is very sad...

PS the funniest thing is that apart Football Manager, with 10k players above, the others are multiplayer games, which Civ V is not or, better, not well designed to go multi... You can see the difference?

I never said anything about the quality of the game (yet I'm being flamed for it anyway).

People are arguing that nobody plays and that the game is a failure. I provide facts to dispute that point.

I provided you a fact, that Football Manager a no Steam exclusive has more player (10k avarage) than Civ. Think of the others like me that own the game not on Steam and do the maths...:D

Not speaking of the fact that mostly of the Steam games in the chart are multi player games, as i stated.... To be a succes 20k is little lame...

Sorry, but to be in the top 10 of games played consistently on Steam is far from sad.

Games like Civ are never going to be anywhere near as mainstream as Call of Duty.

Not only is Civ5 doomed, but it is the harbinger of the apocalypse. What is two (from 2K) multiplied by five (from Civ5) plus one (from 1UPT)? Eleven. What year was foretold by the Maya as the final year in the cosmic cycle? Jan 1st 2012, i.e., 2011 is the end, as foretold by the encoded prophecy in Civ5. Repent yeah Civvers!

What's hilarious is when you get attacked by the people who actually agree with you, but are so blinded by rage that they can't see it. I've had to tone down my own attempts at humor around here because emotions run so high that knee-jerk responses don't appreciate my witty commentary. ;)
