Do you think Civ V is doomed?

I don't think a Civ game should break your computer's back. Civ games ought to be widely accessible as far as hardware requirements go, because Civ games should NOT be all about graphics.

As for others' assertions that "Some people are just pissed that it isn't Civ 4.5," have we not already dealt with that? It goes WELL beyond "Not 4.5."

And dont forget - when Civ4 came out, it was impossible to play for months.

With all due respect, that's just not true. You weren't the only one around when Civ 4 came out. ;)

Interesting remarks, though. There does seem to be a trend in the folks that most appreciate Civ 5 - they often refer to many features of Civ4 as "worthless" or "clutter" or "confusing" and so forth. I'd guess for some, those features added depth and provided a lot of interesting mechanics to play with (and those folks find Civ 5 to be fairly shallow and boring in comparison) whereas others found them extraneous and unnecessary, and thus enjoy the streamlined nature of Civ 5.

what about all the memory leaks? They were present for many months in civ4. I cant remember how long, but I remember I had to gave up on that game for long time and I did have a monster computer at that time.

That problem was specific to some processors and video cards. I had no problems at all running the game, with no crashes - but I had no reason to doubt the flood of people for whom it just didn't work. In particular, folks did experience a memory leak in large/long games. It was mostly fixed by a massive patch (in december if memory serves, a few months after launch.)

Well said. I got into Civilization because my computer was always too slow to handle RTS games and turn based, while it often took a lot of time to compute things between turns, was much more managable on a slower system. Putting restrictive graphics on.... look man I just want a map of the world and stuff so that I can build an imaginary empire... is just plain old counterproductive.
