Do you think that "dimensions" exist?

I mean planes of existance, "above" or "below" the one on which we exist, with different physical rules and laws. If so do you think that travel between such "dimensions" could be possible?

If communication between two such spaces is posseble, then both spaces must be part of the same greater space, and that there is a set of common "physical rules and laws".

But I'm sure betazed has a lot more on this.

Well, I beleive what you are refering to is "brane theory". I don't absolutly beleive that it is neccesarily correct, but it's an interesting proposal that warrants further analysis. According to brane theory, you could see differnet properties based on different brane shapes and vibrational patterens, and communication by gravity may be a possibility. Brane thoery is an interesting proposal but one that will require much further testing and analysis before we can come to any conclusions on its validity.

Main problem is we have no way of testing superstring theory - and arent likely to have for a long time.

Col, I beleive there are ways to test them, but only a positive test, and if it doesn't work it still doesn't negate string theory, is that correct?

Unfortunately, no. because I do not think LesCanadiens is talking about physics here. If I understand him correctly, he is talking about psychological planes of existence etc. on which I am afraid I know nothing about (in fact I am not even sure the concept is well posed).

Also, IIRC, Col is correct. String theory, or its current most accepted incarnate, M-Theory does not make any testable predictions. It has still some distance to go. The only thing going for it is that it looks mathematically consistent.

lastly, although M-theory predicts many dimensions I am not sure actual travel between them is possible becase matter does not travel or exist in many dimensions. rather the mathematical structure of space time manifests in many independent variables which we call dimensions. Those extra dimensions are very different from the three space dimensions we are aware of.

And very lastly, I am way off my ken here since my understanding of string theory is still very rudimentary. I am still ploughing thru the books by Polchinski, and Kaku. Haltingly if I may add. So I might be very well talking out of my a** :crazyeye:

Yes. I have a theory in which all that can exist does, in different universes, planes, and dimensions. Changing dimensions could change laws of physics. Even laws of dimensions. For example here each dimension has 2 ways of change, up and down, or left and right. In another "dimension" there could be 3 or more. Even weirder laws could exist. It might even be possible for laws to exists that prevent us from seeing other dimensions. The weird part about this theory is that in it God or gods would have to exist as well as atheistic universes. That in turn means It might not even be possible for us to see if we live with a god or not. Or we could live in a place where god was here but left.
