I'm a big Star Wars fan and watched the original trilogy again a couple of weeks ago. it really hit home what a whinging, negative whimp C-3PO really is. Always complaining and being rude, wanting to do the sensible thing. If I was Han I would have tossed him out into space the first time he set foot aboard the Falcon. All he was good for was translating, and surely they could have found a much cooler droid to do that job for them.
Remember when Luke was missing on Hoth and 3PO translated what R2D2 tweeped? Something like 'R2 says, the chances for survival are 825- 1' What a tosser! as if Lukes friends needed to hear that!
What was Anakin thinking when he gave him that personality???

No

He's another embarrassment in what could have been a relatively dark and adult movie series.

Jeez, haven't you guys ever heard of comic relief? He's SUPPOSED to be annoying and queer-acting.

Hey, I like him! I always think of him when I think of Star Wars.

And Star Wars wasn't meant to be a dark and adult series anyway. :p

I understand that his character is supposed to be something of a comic relief, but he's still bloody annoying.

I hate him too, nearly as much as Jar-Jar

Did anyone ever hear about the banned C3P0 trading card that was discontinued?

I can't imagine the series w/out him. I thought he was used well in 4 & 5. In 2, he irritated me.

Originally, Lucas had it in mind that C3PO would be a fast-talking con man, useful in talking the Droids out of trouble that R2 got them into. (Notice in Star Wars 3PO a) talks Luke's Uncle Owen into buying R2 and b) talks their way out of an interogation by the Stormtroopers on the Death Star.) He was going to dub a different voice for the character (which presumably would have altered his personality) -- but everyone involved liked Anthony Daniels interpretation, so he kept it.

No disrespect intended, but whenever I hear Tony Blair on the radio I think "C3PO." I think their voices are similar.

C3PO is win. Period.

But then, I think Jar Jar is amusing, so my opinion counts for diddly squat :D.

Want to know what it was banned and discontinued for?

There was a trading card picture that kinda showed what looked to be a robotic 'male organ' on C3PO. It in actuality was a piece of his outfit that was falling off at the time of the picture from what I heard.

A simple google search will probably turn up the picture if you are that curious.

Queer acting all right, R2D2 is just the right height to administer fellatio. Then again, no-one ever said R2 was a boy robot...

Hey, don't talk bad about my boy R2-D2.;) He is one of my favorite characters. That little guy has cajones.

Fro the official Star Wars site, about the banned card:

It appears that the extra appendage is not the work of an artist, but rather a trick of timing and light. The untouched archive photo shows the image just as it appears on the card. The current theory is that at the exact instant the photo was snapped, a piece fell off the Threepio costume, and just happened to line up in such a way as to suggest a bawdy image. The original contact sheets from the photo-shoot attests to this. They are not retouched in any way, yet still contain the same image. Whatever the real explanation is, the 'mischievous airbrush artist' scenario simply doesn't fit.

I wont post the pic and I dont recommend anyone to try to see it, because its not a pretty view.

Is there any evidence that R2 likes C3P0?

I never heard him say that. Lets face it, R2 could sound off about how much he hates the twerp and C3P0 could translate it as anything he wanted to.

"Oh yes I sooo admire 3P0, he`s fluent in over 3 million forms of communication don`t you know?"
