Try as i might, i never seem to enjoy winning the game through domination. I usually destroy one civ and then the game just becomes boring. regardless of the the difficulty level, it just seems too tedious and dull for me. on the other hand, when it comes to science, diplo or culture victory im almost constantly hooked on the game.

to each his own i guess, but does anyone else feel this way about domination victories?

I enjoy science games mostly but I would be lying if I said I don't like really massive wars.

Nope... I like domination victory because it combines science and diplomacy, and if done right, you can avoid being a war mongerer and amass a huge empire.

I'm with you, Rebun. I always seem to get DoW'd early in the game (as I have a bad tendency to ignore my miliatary early on in favor of science), but after I crush that first poorly executed invasion I almost always turtle and go for culture or science wins. The only time I go for a domination victory is when an all random game gives me a civ I don't like playing as on a tiny or smaller map.

Not as bored as I am with the "defeat a couple of civs and then buy up enough CS and wait to win the UN vote" victories...

Yes. I'm still waiting for them to make diplo victory more realistic because it's a pretty bad mechanic.

I love wars and everything that goes behind them but with the AI joint deceleration of war mechanic not that great after I crush an two civs I become so powerful I don't need strategy I can just steamroll everyone with a small detachment from my army

The only true satisfaction is to win against tough humans. In these games you forget to drink and you can sweat a lot. It's really dangerous

The problem with domination victory (and it can be satisfying) is that eventually you reach a point where it is just playing with your food. Once you have swallowed up half the map or so, generally you will have a massive tech lead, huge culture, cash out the wazoo, and can win by any condition you choose.

The last few nations you steamroll can feel way too easy, even on higher levels. Higher levels are all about the challenge in starting, but once you have that strong position even Immortal and Deity civs drop fast and hard.

I go for UN victory instead.

It's still obvious you've already won before you hit the modern era.

This could be a sign I need to try a higher difficulty level.

For the love of CIV, bring back the Civ 4 domination victory. If you cover more than 2/3 of the map with your cultural borders, you win.
Conquering every civ on the map becomes very tedious. Pretty much the only reason why I don't play immortal/deity.

Even Angkor Wat, Great Artists and late settlers would be useful :)

ME.I never win game with Domination Victory because game start to be boring when I beat first 2 or 3 Civs and my mind and body get bored of playing.I was enjoying to win with Science victory.

You only need all enemy capitals to win domination victory.

Pretty much. It's either steamroll an incompetent AI which is still utterly befuddled by 1UPT or use the Vending Machines (err...I mean City States) to buy your way to a Diplomatic/Economic Victory or launch the blue or purple spaceship.

Civilization 5 is a Happiness vampire. It's sucks all the joy out of playing.

This is what's dull about domination victories. Personally, I play it with the self imposed condition that capitals have to be taken last where ever possible.

That is obvious. What is the fun to kill tons of AIs units that can do nothing except for moving in random directions?

But have you at least once played MP? THAT is where you need to carefully plan EVERY move of all your units, predict enemy moves and enjoy EVERY unit killed.

Try it... and never be back to Singleplayer.
