Or the Desktop Cleanup Wizard that Windows bugs you about every two minutes. (Not really, but it seems like it.)

I use it. I stick it up in a corner and use it when I don't feel like digging through the start menu.

The who and the what?

I'm sorry, I guess I am one of those neat freaks who actually wants to keep minimal amount of shortcuts on his desktop :crazyeye:

I want that thing gone. But I don't know how to turn it off:mad:

Right click on your desktop-->properties-->desktop, click the customize desktop button, uncheck "run cleanup wizard every 60 days." Should get rid of it.

Here's a neat trick I discovered -- to get Internet Explorer off the desktop, just use the Desktop Cleanup Wizard to move it to a folder then delete the folder.

You can disable the IE desktop icon from .... some menu.... I forget which one, but you can disable it along with the recycling bin, my documents directory, network places, my computer, etc etc.

You can delete ever icon from your desktop except the Recycle Bin. You need 3rd party software to get that one gone.

I have said entirely blank desktop. Taskbar is also gone, replaced by objectdock.

well, my XP Home won't let me delete IE off the desktop.

I have never had any problem removing IE from and XP desktop. I just click it and delete. It does take extra effort to remove My Documents or My Computer but I usually want those on anyway.

The only things I see in there is Firefox, Nero (the CD burner that came with my computer) and the icon for the scanner.

Give this a try. If it doesn't work, there's another way to do it.

Right click on the desktop->Properties. Click on the Desktop tab->Customise Desktop. Click on the General tab in the Desktop Icons section. Untick IE.

Nope, IE's not there.

Edit: Although it doesn't say delete when I right clicked it, when I hit the delete key on the keyboard as an experiment, it vanished. Figures, LOL.

I didn't even bother before because usually when it does that, the delete key is useless as well.
