Your starting city has a max of 2 food on any tile and there is 1 clam/fish in the water next to it. Does anyone start off researching Fishing, then build a work boat BEFORE you build your first worker? Just wondering if this is a viable strategy or if its too slow.

I usually play with Fishing, starting as Roman, English or Spanish Empire.

As mentioned it is kind of a lottery game if you got a fish ressource near your. But if you win you might be faster than all the other Civs.

Feel free to post in my Thread "Fishing the best Starting Technology!?" - http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=136134

Personaly if I'm going the fishing route I choose a civ that starts with it and play the lottery game in hopes I land on the coast with some fish, whales, or clams, but when I do this I also play water based maps as I get a head start that way. Otherwise I find the time it takes to research fishing sacrafices relgions for it hitting you harder in the long run, but I guess in some senario's if your starting spot was really really good you could do very well. The best part of the fishing stragey is the worker boat does not take up food while being constructed which makes for fast city production.

I'm playing a game right now where I have both Clams and Fish in my starting city radius. I definitely went for fishing right away. That extra food really helps when you are ready to build your first worker and settler.
