I was wondering if anyone has tried purchasing a unit with gold or faith in a city with an encampment district. Did you get the XP or is that only if you hard-build the unit with hammers?
Note that the encampment buildings don't provide XP, as they did in Civ V -- instead, they provide boosts to XP gain from combat.

I implemented such feature in Better Report Screen, tab Units. One can see all modifiers attached to a unit.Is there anything in the interface that shows what kind of XP bonus a specific unit receives? That would be kind of nice to have.
Follow-up : does anyone knows what happens to the bonus if I merge the two knights in a formation (corps or army) ?Units get XP faster even when purchasing them with gold in a city with an encampment district. We don't need to keep on the hard-build.
Just confirmed this morning. I purchase a knight at a city with an encampment include stable and armory then kill one swordsman, earn 8XP. Then reload the savegame, two times.
1. The knight that hard-build (not purchase) at same city also earn 8XP when killing one swordsman.
2. Have a city without an encampment, purchase knight. The knight earns 5XP when killing one swordsman. (really feel happy when I finally saw the number '5')
I don't know for sure (sorry), but from my observations it seems that one unit is considered "better" and it kind of becomes upgraded, the other unit is simply absorbed. Imo the "better" unit keeps all its characteristics, and the absorbed one is simply deleted.Follow-up : does anyone knows what happens to the bonus if I merge the two knights in a formation (corps or army) ?
No there is nothing in game which is annoying. I find just play with your troops and you will find some will get higher. If you know how XP works (read the guide) then you can work out each combat which unit it is as XP rounds up.Am I the only one who find the new encampment/XP system super confusing? It's very hard to gauge how much of a benefit it actually is, and it makes for some weird situations where you have old units with promotions and new units with no promotions, and it's not obvious whether it's better to upgrade the old one or build new ones instead and save the gold.![]()
Great, thanks I will qualify that in my XP guide, I did test it a while back but forgot to add it.Just confirmed this morning. I purchase a knight at a city with an encampment include stable and armory then kill one swordsman, earn 8XP. Then reload the savegame, two times.
Yes, read my XP guide - section corps, armies, fleets and Amadas (above my signature)... it depends but primarily it is based on the XP of the unit, you can sort of choose if they are the same level.Follow-up : does anyone knows what happens to the bonus if I merge the two knights in a formation (corps or army) ?
