does korea's UA work in the vanilla version?

i bought civ 5 without any expansions during the steam summer sale and I also bought the korea dlc. when I play on my friends acct where he has all expansions and dlc, the UA works fine. But for some reason when I play vanilla I dont get any science boost from specialists (+2). If someone could verify if korea is broken in vanilla that would be nice.

I remember Korea being fine when I played Vanilla.

I haven't got any Idea, but you should get BNW. Korea works fine (played them today) and it improves Vanilla so much.
