Domination advice plz

On score I found this in another thread
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/score-victories.608973/
"Empire" is the biggest part of the score and it seems to emphasize the number of cities and/or hexes you control.

So AI building cities/settlers helps with that, farming settlers would help out. Capture all the cities before taking the last capital or run out the clock. The larger the map size the higher the score would also seem the way to go.

Yup, I get sidetracked so eadily though, just wasted 20 turns on religion I guess I did not need to but hey, needed to cool off war wearyness. Not being a huge warmonger its all good stuff. Glad I posted the tread, thanks guys
Oh I hear you, getting religion is a hard habit to break but ultimately it is a distraction.

I am using norway because they are so OP
I found the red-on-blue really hard to focus on when I played Norway, so I changed the red to light blue. Now they look like the New South Wales rugby team running amok.

Do you need such defined numbers of 'armies'? I take a more fluid approach and advance along a front. If the city is large and well-defended the units converge, otherwise I attack two cities at once. Opening two fronts is anther matter - you can get away with it against the current AI, but it's not a good strategy as various would be European Dictators found out.

That said, you want some decent units at home in case someone opens a second front on you.

Well you get an eureka for 8 units. If you are using conscription then archers are maintenance-free so spamming them can work. And once you got a lot of troops it seems a shame not to have them fighting :mischief:

I'll quote myself, "true against the current AI". ;) Archer spam ought to come a cropper against mounted units in the hands of anything competent on normal terrain.

Even if they fixed that spearmen would also be maintenance-free.

I have won a few domination games and have just decided to go for a high points game. Just starting out in a great position but central. Do you think its best I have 1 army, 2, 3, more? I mean the armies do not seem to have to be huge against AI stupidity and I have fealt the pleasure of moving troops through a large country before

EDIT By armies I mean groups of troops at a front rather than 3 knights merged into 1

Was your comment Norway is OP sarcasm? I assume yes.

I like to keep 1 archer fortified in each city, and then have about 1 'roving' warrior per 2 or 3 cities, in that kind of a situation. Special conditions may apply. But generally, this is the most efficient way to defend.

Currently I'm surrounded by Poland, Greece, Norway, and Scythia, and I'm playing as Russia. So my rovers are mostly horsemen atm, and I have about 5 for 7 cities. And one city has 2 extra archers guarding it.

I hate to be all John Madden and all, but a good rule of thumb is, "position your troops according to your needs." Merging is a luxury. I would use maybe if I was hopelessly outclassed by an enemy unit type, but when is that likely to happen? But if you have the time and money... why *not* merge?

You seem to have gotten hold of the wrong end of the stick here. Victoria was making clear that such merging was not being discussed. That would be a different topic and one in which I'd disagree with you.

But spearmen are not very good at taking cities, so you'll need a lot more units...
Even a scout can take a city once it's health is reduced enough, if you give your spearmen a battering ram they will even help take down the walls, in addition cities like to shoot them so you could even start using catapults if you want.

All true, but it's nevertheless true that you will need more of everything if you fight on two fronts, rather than on one. You can take two cities in less time with less units if they are all in the same area to support each other.

Not necessarily as the map can restrict what you can attack with, that's why corps/armies are useful later on

scouts are best used for quick pillaging around the perimeter while your army deals with any units or is attacking the city. just remember though the more you pillage the more you have to fix once that city is yours :P

Yes, I stopped pillaging early. I used horsemen as homeguard which are now fantastic cavalry
My 2 armies is now one larger army of corps, artillery, tanks and field art and musketmen which have just landed on the other continent. Building a battleship fleet to take on germanies island.its all ho hum with 300 turns left. The AI is so useless. Going for facism. Got all the extea card wonders and GP.

for scoring

5x your number of wonders as points
2x your number of techs and civics as points
+4 for a pantheon and +8 for a religion as points
Have not looked at empire yet, will suss it out in a while.

I never knew when you took over a holy city their UB turned into your UB, I took spain and every city had a stave church, weird.
