I once made a mini-episode for Doom, and I still play it a lot. But I was wondering if others like you also still play Doom or find it too old.

My episode

I loved it when it was fresh, lost the disks over the years, bought the reissue of Doom Id did in the last couple of years, but I couldn't get it configured right, so I gave up and uninstalled.

Unreal Tournament is better.

Not since Quake came out.

I liked the brown graphics btw...

Never played it, and most likely never will. I dont like those kind of first person shooters. Then again, the only kind of first-person shooters I like is Metroid Prime :D

Not for years.....games have progressed slightly since then and i think if i was to play doom with its graphics i would die.

Duh! :crazyeye:

I agree a "shooter" game is about the only type of game where graphics are really important. But somehow I still fancy playing it.

By the way, the graphics are not that bad. I always play it in 640x400, and the enemies being pictured in sprites instead of 3D figured doesn't really bother me much.

Btw2: I'm glad to see only 2 out of 13 never played Doom. :)

I don't play anymore because you cannot look up or down!! :)

Yes, I still play both Doom and Doom 2. I even play Wolfenstein 3d, thanks to it being included with RTCW.

Old games...yum.

I still play it often since the DOOM95 Launcher is so easily accessable in my start menu. It's so hard though, it's losing its luster.

I just had the urge to play this again, and I'm amazed by how much better than the original it can be made with downloads.

For example:
  • OpenGL and Direct3D (good resolutions!)
  • 3D Models (no more sprites)
  • Object and camera movement smoothing (no limit on FPS anymore)
  • Simple shadows for objects
  • Dynamic light effects and lens flares
  • Particle effects (instead of sprites, so nice smoke and blood)
  • 3D sound effects with DirectSound3D and EAX 2.0 or A3D 3.0. Also EAX's and A3D's environmental sound effects
  • High-resolution textures (PNG, TGA, PCX) and detail textures. I have a 180 MB pack of textures, all remade from scratch to be from 4x to 8x larger (128x128-->512x512 at minimum)
  • Mouse look

There's also quite a community left who still play Doom.
I'm still won't be playing it very often but I'll probably keep playing occaisonally longer than I would have without these enhancements.

And damn ugly too. :p By the way, there's nothing wrong with no mouse look. You're just not used to it. :p

Where did you find all this?

Yeahh of course I still play it. It's still a nice game for the break to shot down some of your colleagues :D even our boss play with us but we are all a little bit afraid to destroy him because you never know he will have his revenge at our next paycheque :)

Nah he is a funny guy we often cut him down and he takes it with humour but he gets better every time we play and slowly he gets addicted. Now he wants to play every break sometimes even in our working time.

A real wonderful dude :goodjob:
