Dotmap Critique?

I agree with only using one city for the tundra/icy parts. What you do with marble depends on your strategy, but being isolated I personally are always very keen on getting the great library bc you will fall behind in techs as it is if the AI have met and traded before you encounter them. I would put a single city on tundra that gets marble in the BFC.

About benefits of coastal, harbors boosts trade routes as other pointed out, it also gives you +1 health from fish, clam and crab resources. So +2 where you're at. Can also produce ships of course. Drawbacks are coast and ocean tiles are pretty bad because of low yields, unless you're financial in which case they're ok in the early parts of a game.

Fresh water is +2 health.

Coastal -> lighthouse, for +1 food from all water tiles (including lakes, for a decent 3/0/2 tile). A non-coastal city with coast tiles in its BFC has "wasted" 1/0/2 tiles that can never get any better (thus the critique of original yellow dot). Coastal also means a harbor, for +50% on trade routes, which can be significant. Colossus and GLH only benefit coastal cities, too.

One more thing, coastal cities can build ships ;)
