Dr kossin #35

I took a look at the WB:

Spoiler :
I reckon it would be really interesting to be in Joao's position. There's Shaka at the north end of his peninsula but he could easily throw a couple cities north which would focus on military, then take over the two islands to the south that he has a monopoly on. Easy victory from there?

Spoiler :
The problem is he can't expand northern towards Shaka until he has IW, but for a Deity AI that really isn't much of a problem (except for the fact that his second city is doing less than everyone elses off the bat).

Hooray :D I figured you'd lose by Hannibal but nice to see that Shaka made the trek across the continent just to get you. Didn't expect Gandhi to partake, though.

So... What's next? Another try with Miss Lizzy, or on to Wang Kon (3 fin. leaders in a row!)?

Personally, I'm looking forward to Suryavarman (up soon!), Kossin being a self-proclaimed creative addict and all...

wow!...that looked like such a strong start too. A full report/shots woulda still been interesting

Guess Shaka knew lizzy had a low buildunitprob and piled in, that what I do when lizzy is next door.....

I don't know, I usually just skipped to the next leader but I'm tempted to try again, like I did for Darius [2 Daggers that I didn't post].

And as for 3 Financial leaders in a row: I spread out the Creative leaders manually and the rest was done randomly. I did move a few leaders afterwards however (didn't want the same civilization twice in a row).

hey kossin, i think it is time for you to mod diety to make it harder.
i think it's getting a bit boring.:p

I know losing sucks, but seeing how you handled an impossible situation would've probably yielded many good lessons for the rest of us less-than-deities.

;)

I'm a little stuck in my game, but nonetheless.

To Redcoats, Deity:

Spoiler :

Well, I stuck with my plan to go up Education, and after I researched Education I switched to Gunpowder. During this time I was whipping some infrastructure with my cities that had a lot of food, and building other infrastructure elsewhere. I also completed the Hanging Gardens:

I did this trade so that I could research techs that I actually needed:

DRG2.jpg

and because of the trade, I found out Hannibal's land...

DRG3.jpg

Seriously, his first two cities combined had something like 7 Flood Plains, 4 Gold, an Oasis, Horses, 2 Wine and a whole bunch of other nice tiles + a lot of riverside tiles. Well, at least we potentially have a first war target!

So I continued building infrastructure at this point (Universities, Religious Hammer Buildings, Courthouses, some Military Buildings and Markets) and nothing really changed. Joao begged for Civil Service, and I gave it to him. Hannibal AP proposed for everyone to DOW Gandhi and I was all like, nah. The turn I finished Gunpowder I got another GP in the Cap and used him for a part-bulb on PP, then finished it off, which helped my teching immensely (but before I was still #1 GNP at + gold). Shaka DOW'd Joao, and I did a trade to Gandhi for Philo (I traded CS + Gold) and switched to Pacifism to get out some more GP's quick-time. At this point, I decided to screw around with Hannibal a little bit. He had just made peace with Gandhi, so was bound to make a come-back in tech, but he still had a whole bunch of units left, so I made this trade:

DRG4.jpg

Obviously it is good, as his units cost a bunch now, I got a tech that I needed + gold and all I had to give up was Philosophy, which everyone except for the backwards Shaka had. Good deal if you ask me.

After I finished Guilds, I went to Banking and decided that I was going to go up the Rifling route, as I needed to stop someone, it leads to other good techs, and I already have most of the techs needed. During this time, I was constantly checking the tech page to see if anyone had gotten Education, as it sucks when Deity AIs nab Liberalism right from under you. So, because of this I started building some Macemen to boost my power (even though currently I'm not afraid of a war.. Darius is a peaceful guy and has no army, Gandhi hates Hannibal, shares more border tiles with him than me, has no army and is peaceful, and Shaka and Joao are tied up) but better safe than sorry. I also decided to put the Heroic Epic in Nottingham, skip over both the National Epic and Globe Theatre, and to build the National Park in Lahores (which I built the Moaoi Statues there after the Hanging Gardens was built in my cap, as I started to grow the city again). After Banking, I started building our UB, the Stock Exchange. Damn do I love this building. What makes it even more beautiful is that 2/3 of the English leaders are Financial. I also started teching Replaceable Parts. Shaka took one of Joao's cities, which is helpful as it happened to be the one surrounded by cottages and spices! Yummy. My workers finished doing all they could do (until RP came in with Lumber Mills) so they chopped the Jungle outside of my cities as a defense measure and built roads that would give me the shortest routes in between cities. I also got another GP, and I settled him in the capital (Scientist). One turn before I completed Replaceable Parts Hannibal got Education, but considering finishing RP + teching Liberalism only took 4 turns, I decided it was a safe idea to finish RP and then get Liberalism. It worked out perfectly, and off of Lib I took:

Rifling!

I switched to Free Religion once Hannibal did, meaning that I got better relations with everyone, and worse relations with Hannibal. To counter that, I gifted him a beautiful tundra city!

Sadly, he is still at cautious, so I'm stuck on what to do. I'm not very experience at Deity mid/late game, so I'd really appreciate some tips here:

1. How should I produce my Redcoats? Nottingham will be able to hammer them out, but I really don't have the population to draft, nor do I have a draft city. I was thinking about going up the Economics route next, and rushbuying them?

2. Who should my target be?

3. Even after gifting Hannibal the city, he is still only Cautious with me. He still hates Gandhi, so I believe I must force them into war again. Is there anything else I can do to get him up to pleased (gold trade? don't want to give techs).

4. Where should both Wallstreet and Oxford University go? I was thinking my south city, as once those cottages develop it will be one beast of a tech site. I'd like your opinions though.

Other pretty pictures:

Obviously you should win if you're #1 GNP, and #2 Land Area, Population and Mfg Goods but Deity is unforgiving...

Comments/Suggestions appreciated.

You can always whip them... waiting for Democracy might lose your window of opportunity. Grabbing more land is better than working every cottage you have, and your cities are pretty large.

I could not make my mind today on whether to run another Liz game or move one so it will have to wait until tomorrow, sorry!

I've uploaded a new start and changed the first post slightly with the newest screenshot. Will likely start tomorrow as today is a busy day.

Might should have made a new post instead.

As for the new start: SIP. Your start shows the signs of being fixed up in step 8 of the startsite procedure (all-forest; pigs&marble). If so there must be four resources, but we see just three.. ergo, the one unforested tile is a hidden resource.

Also, I can't see the floodplains east, but assuming they are there, then there is likely to be desert on the far side, and you don't want that.

Looks like your start is only going to have 3 resources in the BFC, as it looks like there's 3 floodplains in your start. It is a very nice start though, so as long as it's not cramped with warmongers, it should be playable and fun!

I'd be tempted to settle 1SE on the new start. I assume the blue circle is for coast? Seems a lot better production wise, or at least picks up another grass hill.

Sorry, sorry, haven't forgotten about the game, I've actually started playing it but just haven't managed the extra time for an actual report... tomorrow should be possible however.
