I have BtS and I like to mod it for my own pleasure as well. Here is where my problems begin. If I install standard or customized nVidia drivers, the game works fine for a while, and then the graphics gradually corrupt until the game is unplayable (colours go redish/orangish, letters turn to unreadable blocks), however, if I let Windows Update install the Windows-qualified drivers for my card, anything that requires OpenGL gives me a "Driver components mis-match. Exit is the only option." error related to the nVidia drivers.

Currently I am using the Windows-qualified drivers for the nVidia Geforce Go 7800, driver version in dxdiag is 7.15.0010.9746

Recommend if your graphics card has only a heatsink add a fan to it or add a slot fan to cool the beast down . If it has a fan try to see it spin make sure it's not all dust bunny's around there . If it spins slowly or has stopped replace the fan . Or i'd just upgrade the card since it seems like it might be on it's way out anyways
