I understand that advertisements are necessary on this page to keep it free for all of us (thank you Thunderfall!), but recently (in the last month or so), every 10 page loads (i.e., posting a response, loading a thread, etc.) or so, a program downloads itself onto my desktop. It started out just as an executable (randreco.exe), but now it is downloading itself in a folder called DrTemp. Is this a happening to everyone, i.e., is it just another "advertisement," or just to me? I have my security settings as high as possible while still being able to use sites like this (w/ cookies), but I've had some problems with spyware on my computer, especially with one particularly persistent program ("offeroptimizer"). Is it the civfanatics forum itself causing this program download?

Ive had no end of spyware,adware viruses etc sent to me by son of ***** hackers but its stopped now thanks to two things: Have McAffe Anti Virus and using Firefox web browser.

i have this, i got it using IE(i use ie and firefox), i didnt know what is was until this post....

I too use IE, but the d/l just occurred for the first time when I wasn't at CivFanatics (I think that's a sign I spend too much time here). It happened when my computer booted and aim started automatically. I think I'm finally to the point where freeware anti-spyware software won't do the trick anymore. I'll have to shell out and buy a special prog... Does anyone have any suggestions about what is best?

Try HiJackThis. Seems to work pretty good.

Probably the Comp forum would be a better place to continue this.

Find one with live phone support, and never worry again.
