Druid's hideout

I was going to play the human SG, but my travel pc doesn't have the HUMAN mod. I'll d/l that at work and try and play on the train home. So, instead, I played this one. Unfortunately, I was running vanilla warlords so no log.

Highlights:
  • We nuked and razed two greek cities. We are approaching athens but we keep getting artillary attacked (our city killers are taking collateral damage).
  • I toyed with the option of also attacking some cities closer to home (stealth bomb then kill with modern armour) but that just encourages the AI to actually attack our units ... retreated to the fort after losing 1 MA
  • We have a spy in our back yard ... pillaged aluminium and uranium ... our spy in Japan is making her way back to find this enemy spy (it might be quicker to just disband that spy and build another but I only thought about that now)
  • we are getting some fighter attacks from an aircraft carrier ... carrier group sent to davy jones locker via stealth strike, battleship and destroyer action
  • I built west point when we lost uranium (only took 2 turns) so new units now get +4XPs
  • Didn't have time to move units on last round so all units are up for movement (sorry, train pulled into GCT ... time to get off)
  • I have some pictures that I will try and post tonight or over the week end, fairly dull stuff (spy pillage report, result of duel nuke at Greek city - not much damage actually, must have a bunker, etc) Update - no piccies - didn't take. Don't know why.
  • we now have two battleships - suggest one on each side of our hideout
  • also suggest some more fighters for intercept duty
  • I did lose a battle at something like 98% odds, no SC as I expected the logger to capture that data, but as I said before, no logger
  • we got a GE - merge ... is there any other valuable option? (got him from fission tech)
  • we are still 3rd in score, suggest environmentalism civic for next tech so that we can grow

Yeah, I think the only viable option is to merge the GE ... ICMB is still taking 2 turns to construct ... too long. If we can get artilleries to commando status, may be that would help speed up the rate at which we are destroying cities.

Right, it is definitely faster to disband the spy and build another one, the hammer overflow would likely to shorten the next ICMB or MA to 1 turn, so no big lost.

I think we should go Genetics > Future Tech (each future tech increase 1 health, and would also add to our score, me think).

Razed smaller Greek cities, wasn't brave enough to take on Athens even after nuking, the odds were below 50% (except for Little John, but we have only 1 of him). We overtook Greece for 1 turn in score, but Monty is quite ahead of us. He has no unhappy face from WW in his capital. :sad:
I don't know how could we win this.
(I haven't found the enemy spy, by the way.)

In retrospect, we should have gone for space ... we should have won by now.

Anyways, I spend first half of my turns building MAs and a few more turns loading them up a transport, landing them, and moving them to front. One of them got destroyed en-route, but the rest reached Athens and razed it. So much for the Greeks.

I've abondened those MIs without commandoes, they are slowing the whoe stack down too much. In perfect 20/20 hindsight, we should had either concentrated on building MIs and MAs, or go for space victory. Now is too late for any, let's play it out. 20 more turns to go.

I played 8 turns, 12 more to go. Why didn't I play 10? Well, I thought that I should gather some team input. I razed 4 of monty's cities, bringing his score down to about 2800 (ours is 2500 or so). I was also using the team of MAs with the spy but on my 7th turn, they all got wiped out (excluding the spy). On my last turn ...

12 turns is not enough to restart invasion to Aztec (which would most probably be wiped out en-route anyway.

2 options: one is to raze the nearby Aztec cities west of london, and hope that it is sufficient to pull his score down further. Second is to nuke the hell out of Axtec's land and hope that the reduction of pop will reduce his score.

Future Tech is taking 16 turns ... hmmm ... we might want to turn to something that is less than 12 turns. Having learnt 90&#37; of future tech at 2050 will not help our score in anyway, but learning a full tech, even if a crappy one, would.

It's now weekend, so don't cheat! ;)

first step is to reassign pop to work on whales ... grow will give us more points.

Next is to swap out future tech (we won't make it) to Ecology.

Finally is to bring spies out to cut resources and upgrade machine guns to MIs. We have lost of money, so might as well spend them.

I decided to go for both approach I outlined earlier producing nukes while using whatever troops I can spare to suicide attack the two Aztec cities.

As seen, nuking only reduce 10+ points or so ... we need more nukes than we can produce.

Meanwhile, I still see no foreign spy, but the game reported liquidating an aztec nikita ...

... so obviously a spy in our backyard is useful.

The foreign spy cut our uranium mines twice, and I use the opportunity to produce more MAs. In retrospect, maybe going for a wonder would be better, as that may push our score up a bit more than an MA can push Monty's score down. Plus, it's not only Monty that we must worry about.

A fun game, we could have done things differently and tried to go for space instead. We would have won. Anyone interested, we could roll back to the time we built the Internet and go for space.

Hired more scientist instead of engineers and instead working mines and increased sci rate to 100%. Managed to get both Ecology and Mass Media.

I didn't built more nukes just MAs for a final attack on last turn. It wasn't successful, Monty reinforced that city when I unloaded troops.

Well Good job we tried... it was a very narrow difference between win and loss.... Still good game taught me a lot about the power of nukes , commando city raiding units etc.

I had to suddenly go home from my college room , so the brief message and no summary. Actually there was one thing which I didn't mention due to lack of time. Our commando tanks / MA could go ten tiles and destroy a city but Mech infantry , gunships can't as no commando promotion. So when you nuke/raze a city always choose it such that after sending in the city raiders once the city is razed the cultural border to the city is no longer there enabling our stack protection troops to protect the injured stack of tank/MA .

Anyways good game and I think all of us enjoyed it very much. I will be going to my campus on 5th June and will buy a brand new comp which should play CIV 4 like a breeze.

Since I can't access the save can anyone delve into it and give the enemy units killed / friendly units killed. I would like to see that.

Well done people, it's a pity I couldn't engage in the second half, but these things happen. It was a close one, but it brings to mind the age old adage: "Stockpile more nukes!" Yes. I think there's something in that for everyone.
