I've added some new civs to my Fall of Rome mod, but those ungreatful cretins- sorry, subjects, refuse to fly their flags properly! Basically, they only display the secondary colour of the Civ, even though I set them all to 'white flag' and made the flags just images rather than those transparent TeamColor ones (which didn't work properly either). The border colors are all right, its just the flags that are malfunctioning.

This a BMP image of one of the flags that I want, the flag of the Huns. Obviously it is in DDS format in the game, I just can't upload those here:

When the flag is shown in the game though, it is just a plain thing the same colour as the bird-shaped symbol in the middle.

I've tried all sorts to solve this, i.e renaming new flag images, changing team color, turning on WhiteFlag, but it just doesn't do anything. It can't be a typo in one of the tags, as I'm using an XML editor that puts the tags in automatically.

EDIT: Even this forum is turning against me! The image won't show here as well!
EDIT EDIT: The image is showing here now, the website has bent to my will! But not Civ, unfortunately!

I've realised that when I had the proper Decalc flags on rather than images the secondary colours did show for all the flags, but the primary was just white.

My graphics program is Fireworks, which may have different transparency channels to others. But that doesn't explain why my Canada civ I made in a tutorial worked properly.

In the words of Professor Messer, what did I do wrong? :(

do you have DXTBmp? you should go find it and download it. Open up your flag in the dds format with it.

It should look something like this,

DXTBmp.jpg

look to the upper right hand side where it says "alpha channel", click the 2nd button labeled "send to editor". When paint pops up, select the "bucketpainter", then select the color "black" (it should already be selected) then, bucket paint the image to be 100% black, then save, and close.

You'll be back to the screen where you were at the beginning now. Now click the 3rd button, right next to the one you clicked before, its labeled "Refresh after Edit". Now your screen should look something like this;

DXTBmp1.jpg

Save the file, if it ask you to overwrite select yes. Now it should display correctly.

Where do I find said converter? I just use that one called 'DDS Converter' that has that cartoon man for the icon.

Ayways, I'll turn one of the flags to a Decalc style one so I can test it. I can't do them all now, I've got curry to collect soon, yummy! :P

just go to google and type in DXTBmp and it'll probably be the #1 result.
