A friend of mine proposed me to play this game. I find this game very entertaining and it's free! For the first time in years i'm playing a game more than any civ games. Not found a recent post about this MMORPG. I never played WoW too, but DDO fits very well for my tastes.

If i go very deep in the game, i might spend money for more upgrades and stuff. Yes not everything is free but hey at least you can not spend any penny if you want. But anyone who like to play adventure games i recommend this one.

Any toughts?

I heard it was basically just an instanced dungeon crawl. Not exactly a full-featured experience, but ok if you like D&D rules.

If I were to go free-2-play with a fantasy MMO, I'd probably pick up Lord of the Rings, since it seems like more of a well-rounded game; although I find the D&D-ification of hobbits (e.g. all kinds of warriors,etc...) to be ******** for a game trying to be a serious Tolkienesque experience.

But only one MMO at a time, and World of tanks is enough for me.

It is all action, but then again, all MMO's are all action with little character development and story. It's just this game has all the action contained in instances versus a game like WOW where most of the action is in outdoor areas.

The game was pretty fun, but still a little too action orientated for me (iirc blocking actually required you to put up your shield, it doesn't rely on stats/attributes). It's a fun game if you just have to play a class in D&D, but don't expect actual D&D rules.

Even LOTRO didn't manage to keep my interest. I dunno, I'm just waiting for Guild Wars 2... Which is coming out sometimes around never (that's about the same time as Diablo 3)

Also, never saw you around the forums yet but Tabarnak! T'es allé chercher ça loin mon gars!

:p

I never played a single MMORPG before and not really played great RPG brands since years. Was much a guy of Final Fantasy-Suikoden series for the NES,SNES and Playstation 1 years. I really liked FFXII for the PS2. It had probably a great influence in my opinion for DDO. I played some paper and pen stories in DDO style when i was young too. And interactive books(Livres dont vous êtes le héros...don't remember in english...from great authors like Jackson and Leviston).

From posts above, i can conclude that Guild Wars is a must.

I'd disagree in that WoW really is well-rounded. You have your in-town trader/craftsman/auction action; you got the instanced dungeons (which can get crazier if you're on a PvP server), you got instanced PvP arenas, and then the raids (which IIRC were un-instanced, but I forget). I'd agree you don't get much of a story, unless you make one with your guild or actually find friends who role-play (RP); the WoW questing system is generally devoid of story. WoW is mostly about exploration and tactical combat and whatever socialization you can get out of the game.

But I disagree that you can't find story-based MMOs, or live-role-playing orientated MMOs.

I don't need much of a story in MMOs, I find complaining about story in an MMO is a little weird. I do appreciate some world lore and such, but a story carrying me through the game as if I was some sort of super hero sort of breaks the mood considering there are thousands of people around me doing exactly the same thing... All hail Ultima Online.
