Hello
I have a copy of civ iv on Dvd rom after installing i double clicked icon game started loading then ask me to "please insert the correct CD-ROM"
can someone help me with this?
Thanks

Thanks for your help
I have a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D any idea on how i can dissable the burning software on this

So how do you get around this is if you don't want to uninstall your DVD/CD software any time you want to load up the game?

The box should carry a warning if it imposes this sort of arbitrary restriction on what hardware/software you have.

The game doesn't give this error only for installed burning software, but also if you have scsi or pseudo-scsi drivers. This is a wonderful feature of the safedisc4 (I hope some lawcourt will condemn them to pay 1billion dollar for applying a so dumb and unfair method like the black list).

However, back to the point... you don't want to uninstall your burning software or you are just one of those unlucky that get this message even with no burning software installed (I even uninstalled Nero)...
use sd4hide.exe (google it). It hides whatever you have on your system that could trigger the safedisc4 protection. I have this problem, I solved it with this nice tool.

:cooool: Thx firaxis, you can send me money in one month to do what you SHOULD have to do, helping customers...

I have original copy/package (in my country laws are to be followed). I tried it during several days using all known means. Disk doesn't work. I found one solution. It's not any more legal.

I retire now.

I've got the same problem, but sd4hide isn't solving it (I have a DVD-ROM drive, although I do have Nero for my CD-RW drive). What's especially annoying is that in addition my DVD-ROM drive disappears from My Computer and I keep having to reboot.

You don't need to remove your burning software, just reboot your computer and it will work (al least, im my case)

This hasn't worked for me, I've run sd4hide and clicked hide, then rebooted and attempted to run again. I still get the same problems:
1) The insert correct CD-ROM message
2) My DVD drive disappearing from My Computer

I've got the same problem. Have run the Hide program, have deinstalled Nero, still doesn't work.

Same here. I didn't know the Sonic program too was black listed (and that's probably why sd4hide didn't work for me).
The only solution I now have is either send the game back or get a no-CD / no-DVD patch!

I too have the DVD-ROM version, which installs fine but when you want to run the game "can't find the CD". I don't have any CD or DVD burning software to remove. I also get the problem that my DVD drive "disappears" once I have tried to run the game and I have to reboot to get it back.

I have taken the whole package back to the retailer (PC World) and been told that they don't give refunds on software they can only exchange it for another copy. I brought the replacement copy home and not too surprisingly it acts in exactly the same way.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

This only works for English versions of the game! Well, it works, but you'll get some English text and audio mixed with your original language...

It does seem a rather ironic consequence of the copy protection algorithms that people like Bridget and I can't run the game, whilst those with cracked copies have no such problems.

I should add that I've managed to resist the temptation to PM Howitzer for the deleted link.

I can't run SD4hide as it doesn't work with Windows ME, but from what I can remember of the instructions for it, you run sd4hide, select hide, then don't minimise or close the program (or reboot) but start Civ 4 from your usual desktop icon. This may or may not help, SD4hide doesn't seem to work for everyone. There's a long thread exploring this problem that has gone off the front page.

i've got a jerky DVD-drive problem too:

after i installed civ4 my computer had problems to detect DVDs! no more auto-play and i couldn't use several legally bought DVDs anymore. then i deinstalled civ4 and everything worked fine again. by the way, i never had problems with data-only ROMs in this period.
so what the ****? do i have to choose between having a fine-working computer and a somehow-disabled computer without my DVD-drive but WITH civ4? can anyone help?
