DVD Subtitle problems

At the minute I am watching da Vinci Code, and only some of the subtitles, if any, appear on screen. In other films, subtitles do not appear at all, with the subtitles option turned on.

What can I do to solve this?

Please be more specific of the program you use and your language. I've had some problems with subtitles when the lines which included Slovene characters (čš&#382 didn't show up.

On the computer I use Windows Media Center, but this also happens when the DVDs are played in actual DVD players.

If it happens on both, then chance is the problem is with the DVD.

But this happens with all my DVDs. Kill Bill with the Japanese, Godfather with the Sicilian, da Vinci Code with the French and Latin...

Question: where were the DVD's bought? If you have pirated, or a different distro of a DVD (such as a russian one or something), the subtitles might be messed up.
