DXDIAG = DX11 all installed fine.
Latest video drivers

DX11 version available from menu but clicking it just returns to desktop. No error, no crash, no nothing.

It was my understanding that DX11 would only run on Quadcore machines.

I'm in your boat, too - 3.0Ghz E8400 duocore, 64bit Vista with 4GB ram.

I cannot run Civ5 in DX11, it won't let me.

No, DX11 runs on DX11 machines = Win7 + DX11 graphics card, processor doesn't matter.

And that's the problem here: The Geforce GT 7950 is a DirectX9 card, and is not capable of DX10 or 11.
That should normally not lead to such a strange behaviour, but at the end it does not really matter here.

beat me to it, 7 series nvidia cards can only do dx 9, not 10 or 11, i got an 8800gt which is dx 10 but not dx 11, which doesn't help since civ V is dx 9 or 11... lol?

@shinkicker, you probably have the same problem I had, Steam running in Vista compatibility mode. Deselect that and you get the DX10/11 option :)

DX10/11 mode works with DX10 or DX11 cards in Vista or Win7.
