Hi Civfanatics

Here i found several tips or hints to a succesfull game. Some of those tips are:

If you find a civ early in the game kill it.
If you find a civ in your continent, kill it

I think this is right, but difficult and costly.

When you say early in the game, you mean attack with elephants, archers and legions or "early" means attack with musketters and so.

I think early means elephants, horseman and archers. This is ok, the problem is that at Emperor or Deity level, the AI is very efficient and move your troops to attack the AI and fail can cause a serius fall to your advances and, most important, CITY EXPANSION.
Someone can help with tips about early war in civ2 or, more specific, HOW TO KILL THE AI CIVS EARLY IN THE GAME.

I know that i'm a newbi, but i think is almost impossible kill one or two civs and build about 30 cities in a small map, emperor level, ranging hordesall this at AD1!!!. Some guys says that they can do it (current GOTM12).

Ok, i hope someone can help. Thanks.

well yes bc finishes on small maps are quite possible.

You can go wandering and pick up units from huts.2 or 3 units can take out a civ early.Maybe you get a legion early. This is a superman unit that early.

I generally do my "early" fighting with knights and/or crusaders.2 move units are the best and fastest in civ2.Any pre modern warfare should revolve around mounted units.Horses, knights, crusaders, dragoons and cavalry.

This is what I generally do for fast conquest on small deity maps.

Lets assume I get no units from huts.

Build 2 cities ASAP.Location is not all that important but obviously terrain specials help.
2 warriors.Out they go exploring.
If they find units(highly likely),1 will circle back to the cap after some exploring.
2 more warriors for garrison.Should be close to size 2 now.
2 settlers are next.Any gold I have from taxes or huts or even contact is used to incrementally speed the settlers.Always demand at first contact.Especially with MGE.

Best sheild city then starts a wonder if possible with a unit returning to that city before size 3.
Other city will build another settler.2 new cities ASAP.They build warriors, then settlers.

Keep this going until 6-8 cities are down, then 1 more round of settlers and start building roads.

Connect the cities.

During all this, you hopefully have contacted others and/or found more huts.

Also you are researching at max science rate.
First goal is Monarchy if no wonder allowing tech was given at the start, then either Bronze Working or more likely Map Making as you may need boats.

Next you want Feudalism.Switch your wonder to War Academy and max taxes.Next goal is Chivalry which you want to try and time with the completion of War Academy.Lower your science rate and max taxes.Use your gold from taxes, huts and tribute to finish it ASAP.

Then start incrementally rushing knights.NOTHING else.Keep building roads towards your first target(the closest is a good place to start).Assemble at least 4 knights before attacking. The more the merrier but you want to move quickly before the ai can put up walls.

You should be running 70% tax and 30% science.Try to maintain this until Writing as you may need diplomats to sabotage walls. And bribing if you like.

Once you start to capture cities you may need to devote resources to luxuries and hire Elvi'.Gradually raising it as you go.Science is finshed at this point so don't worry about.

You should be able to clear small maps by 500AD or earlier at deity.BC is possible. There is always a certain amount of luck or bad luck involved but your best finishes will come when you start in a corner with 1 way to go.

Multiplayer Gold Edition.
The AI is more hostile than in original classic civ2.

you ain't lying 'bout the AI being MORE hostile...geez i've met rabid wolverines more hospitible...:cringe:

On Deity level, it's very hard to kill an AI whent they've got some 6+ size cities. I'll normally make them allies. I know they will break that treaty later in the game. Then I switch to Fundamentalism (I can normally build the SoL) to keep my people content and to make money for bribing. Then one city after the other is bribed. I begin with cities that keep WoW.

How do you do it? Horses, Archers, and Legions just don't have the strength, especially on Deity! I always wait on, build cities continously until I have Aumor. Then I go out, and they know all about it!!:D:D:lol:

Maybe even Cavalry are a good start, I sometimes wait for them too.

I'm off!

Smash has a good point, there. I once took out all four Viking cities (only one was captured, the rest obliterated!) with a mere two Horsemen, without a loss! If you are intent on keeping your continent to yourself, definitely kill them off early. Use Horsemen, Elephants and Archers to attack with, and either Phlanx or Archers to repel any enemy counterattacks. City Walls are an essential item for this, so discover Masonry ASAP!
