If somebody were out of their mind, could you make a script that would build an earth map hex by hex? Basically, telling it where to put each hex and what should be on that hex, for the entire map? If you could do that, any idea how long it would take to load?

Yes you could.
Won't be longer as other map scripts, may even be faster (no calculations).

I don't know if the result could be used in MP, I wanted to try, but I lack time (and motivation, I don't like civ5 MP implementation, I will wait for mods to be allowed before playing it I think, and then such a trick won't be needed I hope).

Thanks for the info Gedemon! I love playing Earth and it's disappointing you can't play multiplayer. It would be a bummer to finish the script and find out it didn't work in MP! LOL! I'd love to start a fundraising project where we each pop in $5 for somebody to do this for all of us, but I'm pretty sure that would violate the forum rules!
