Easter Eggs

As for the Al Gore thing:

He said "..........During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system..........."

I don't know what he said before or after that. But reading just his first line, the meaning of what he wanted to say gets jumbled and looks like he clearly states that he created the internet. He must be a genius. jk.

Well these are the only easter "eggs" I saw

1, Al Gore's picture on the internet icon
2, The Map Maker screen (?) show the earth in reverse, land is ocean/ocean is land.
3, George Bush's picture in on one of the icons.

Where is George Bush's picture exactly?

I think old Al was confused. Of course he didn't invent the internet, AFAIK it was invented at a college in CA in the 60's. BUT if I remember correctly it was his boss, George Sr. that made the internet public and open to business.

The modern internet is a descendant of Arpa-Net, a military/defense network. It was then expanded to the military-industrial-research complex (ie: research universities) and then expanded to other, more pathetic universities (like UCLA and USC :D ), then expanded to AOL ;)

Why do i think Internet "existed" instead of "invented". Because it exist from the network of smaller networks. The word "internet" comes from the word inter- and net[work]...

Not an easter egg, but on the topic of funny things the AI leaders say,
I forget who it was, but he threatened me by telling me if I didn't go along with him, my life would be "short and exciting"

You got a good point. That is also why you can't "invent" the internet, but "build" it in the game. The electronics are invented the concept is implemented.

Hmmmm...easter eggs would be really fun...too bad they don't include some more. maybe they could be a resource! They add to your city's happiness and increase the chance of a great bunny appearing!

Sometimes the computer leaders will say something like "May we all live long and prosper", which is a reference to Leonard Nimoy's (the narrator) role as Spock on Star Trek.

Not sure its an easter egg, but if you set random maps to Custom_Continents and the number of continents to random, you will often see S shaped continents (S for Sid?). Then again, you also often see Swastika-shaped ones...but I won't go there.

Just today I realized that the music playing during world generation of a custom map comes from "Colonization". Made me crack a huge smile and I had fits of nostalgia.

No, actually, it's the same music, same text and same general presentation as the first Civ game.

what we today refer to asl the "internet" in fact is the "www". a network that uses the hypertext transfer protocol (http) to display content. this hasn't been "invented" by the united states, it has been invented by a swiss guy. and the US continued to use this protocol for their arpa net. a military network what established connection lines (borrowed copper cables) got then used by universities. that lead to what we today call the internet. their has been lots and various of nationally and globally initiated networks. many of them didn't used http (and html) but eventually this technique found it's way to be the most accepted.

so whatever al gore is referring to, the impact of the united states on the internet hasn't been that big. what they did is "inventing" the tld system (.com, .org, etc.) what led to the internet we know as of today. the arpa net may be crucial to the US internally, but it isn't crucial to the internet as a whole anymore. claiming the internet bases on the arpa net is very US centric as the internet existed outside of the US also. the "www" has been of most use in the US tho. but it still hasn't been their invention.
could be tracked down to the US always spending tons of money into military techs and the internet (decentralized network) has been one of those techs that also evolved independantly in other states.

uhm, to cut a long story short: the US have as much to do with the invention of the internet as with the invention of breathing oxygen.

That figures. Only in America could they come up with an acronym (www) that takes longer to say than the actual words that it replaces!

They could have done somthing like:
"welcome in my palace! Would you play some poker?" and it would have been easier to translate.

By the way, Ceasar Palace should give you more money when you own it...

One of the soundtracks that plays in the Classical Era is a remake of music from civ3. In Warlords, they moved the classical music to ancient and now classical IS civ3 music, so you can find out which one if you know where the folders are.

Only on the internet would people complain about it.
Do you run around the real world going "WWW takes longer to say than it does to write!" or do you not say that because it takes too long to say?
