I have often problems with the effects of some wonders, like the internet. (I'm going to start with this)

This is a late wonder, often build by a high tech civ and it gives a tech known by 2 civs to the builder. I find this a bit strange. :crazyeye:

I would give +1 :science: to research lab and univ., academies and +1 :gold: to banks.
The internet was developed in CERN labs for better communication between the scientists and later on to all univ.
Now, the web is used by banks to and there is a lot of commerce going on on the web too.

perhaps it could give +1 :) because people can download great MODs for there games ;)

Also, I would make it a national wonder, because all civs can conect to the net.

Yeah, I always just build the internet so no one else can get it. By that point, I'm miles ahead of everyone else in the tech race.

Are you guys playing on Chieftan? Internet is one of the most valuable late-game techs. You couldn't win an Emperor+ difficulty game without it.

Like I reply in the "Idea of a new building" threat:

Why the channel gives 100% :science: ? I belive that the Oxford University was a better building for this effect, and in RFC renamed it to "Federal University" or "National University", but i really don't know the name but it's better than a "smart channel"....

Just a suggestion! o/

hehe, good idea xD, but i find google is far more powerfull ( mainly because of the World Domination Plan  )

And, there is a way to change the "Space Race" target? i think that Alpha Centauri is to futuristic, perhaps Mars?

:P Google Victory! "You own Google. Congratulations, you now RULE THE WORLD!"

Anyway, back on topic. I think the internet should give science, wealth and culture, and be a national wonder.

The channel tunnel is just silly (no offence) and needs renaming. Maybe a return of the Theory of Evolution from Civ3, which would merit the science bonus.

I agree that Alpha Centauri is a tad ambitious for before 2050, so I would say Mars. The movie would need tweaking though. Know any good .bik editors? :P

I really can't see any new way to make the Internet wonder, because it is so "global" >_<.

But I think that change it to a National Wonder that "Grants all technologies aquired by any 2 known civilization" will be good, and that give a chance of small civilizations have a chance to compete in the end.

And I think that a Wonder that has a focus on stability (Less chance of Civil War or something like that ) will be a great adittion. :goodjob:

yeah, will be too overpower  I agree with you, the SadoMacho idea is the best xD.

Currently the only change i would make is the Channel thing :P that's a little bizarre. :mischief:

I play on monarch, and I always try to manage my techs reasonably well, and am almost never behind in techs when I have the ability to build internet.

Try Emperor ;D. You're doing incredibly well if you're at the same tech level as the score leader. Unless you get really lucky with wonders and resources, you're likely to be an age behind and beelining to Internet to catch up in the end-game.

If we did that, the Internet national wonder ('Internet Access'?) would be way overpowered. If it was a national wonder, we should implement the changes specified by SadoMacho.

How does leveling the playing field make it too powerful?

I would say that Theory of Evolution is silly. Is there a building with that name, anywhere?
The tunnel at least is a famous REAL modern creation. It uses an effect that was remaining unused after the wonders shift I made some time ago

We also had Women's Sufferage in previous versions of Civ. Why not add more cultural "Wonders"?

For instance, you could change Emancipation from a civic to a Wonder and make Slavery and Serfdom obsolete after it's construction. That would definitely throw a wrench into the game.

I like that idea, but whereas the Theory of Evolution would be a world project (It doesn't need to be discovered twice), you could have smaller, more civic related national wonders.

EDIT: I just thought, we could also have science projects for many theories, which could have a science bonus. Think of the influence that the Theory of Relativity, or Newton's Laws had on the progress of science. These are too small to have as individual techs, but as national projects I think they'd work.
