It should be Ramses II,

I agree, Ramses would be a better choice.:egypt:

I hadn't considered Cleo as much as Joan. I mean really. Joan of Arc? She led French troops to like 2 victories before she was captured and killed, and she wasn't even the actual leader of France. She was a inspirational character, but hardly a great ruler.

As to Cleo, same with her. She was a ruler of Egypt, but only during the time when Egypt was controlled totally by Rome (although it could be said Caesar and Anthony were actually controlled by Cleo...so...).

One of the ancient Pharoahs would have been a better choice. Someone who actually helped build Egypt.

I totally agree. Choosing Mao for China is like choosing Stalin for Russia.
Joan could have been swapped to any other face of french history ... by the way she never ruled France, nor commanded the French army - really strange choice.

Well in civ 1 and 2 they did have stalin

I think its funny that they chose a lot of peaceful leaders like Lincoln, Gandhi, and Hiawatha. It sounds really weird when they make threats
In fact, seeing Gandhi making a threat or declare war sounds like blasphemy to my ears.

They also did have Napoléon and Louis XIV :)

I agree that they should have used someone actually Egyptian, and not a Macedonian/Pontus hybrid. She may have been well known, but that's only because she slept with some Romans! And, from what I've read, I seem to recall that she should be uglier, with goldish eyes. Anyway, the makers of civ didn't really have a choice. They need some women rulers, and Cleopatra is one of the most famous.

Personally, I think it would be mcuh better if they went with a more modern Egyptian ruler, like Nasser! Just kidding, that would be infinitely worse than Cleo. They should just use Ramsese, it just makes sense!

I think they need Napoleon for France, Ramses or Khufu for Egypt, an ancient Chinese emporer for China, and anyone else for Russia!!! I suppose they need women rulers, but I can never conduct diplomacy with Russia without having nightmares about Catherine the Great replacing all the other leaderheads in Civ 3!

they should just have a choice of a leader for each country, 1 male, 1 female
That's what I've always thought.

And who is going to pay the overtime the Firaxians will have to put in producing twice as many animated leaderheads? Not everyone may agree with the choices for leaders, but I think they did a great job. Not brilliant, but great.

Cleopatra happens to be one of the most famous of all ancient rulers, regardless of whether her reign actually merits it. If Egypt had not been in the game for its importance in world history, imho it should have been included just because of her.

Cleopatra is in my opinion a bad choice to represent the Egyptians.
1) the 'image' of her is a hollywood creation. There is only 1 image of her and it's a bust in a musuem, probably a private one, in germany somewhere. She is not a pretty lady. She looks more like a middle aged english woman than the classical beauty that she has been made out to be.
2) What did she do for the egyptian culture? She killed it.
3) Other leaders to recommend are Narmer (Nemes) who was the first to unite the upper and lower Egypt, Khufu(Cheops) who built the Great Pyramid after so many attempts, Thutmoses, Queen Hatschepsut, Ramses the Great, Akhenaten are all much better choices.
I think that the reason that she was chosen is cause she was the most famous.

Edit: Actually Akhenaten isn't the best choice, I just put him there cause he's one of my favourite pharoahs.:D

What about King Tut? I've yet to hear anyone mention HIM....

Though, if I remember correctly, Ramses II had about 200 children... Quite an argument on who would be heir.

If you by "King Tut" mean Tutankhamon, well, he would be a pretty bad choice; the only reason anyone's heard of him is because of his grave, by pure chance, escaping thorough looting. He died very young, and probably never wielded effective power.

It's just that each civilization is supposed to be represented by the ruler and the UU that is corresponding to their golden age, the time when they reached their peak in power.
The Germans used Panzers in the Blitzkrieg, and Bismark wasn't the ruler then. Plus, Germany was probably at their strongest at this time. Who ruled them then ;) ?

Well, it's better for them not to have proposed Hitler, it would have been a mess here :)

And Bismark is a good choice nevertheless, he was the founder of modern Germany, which was the dominant power in Europe at this time. Best alternative.

Bismark sounds funny to me when he makes threats. Bismark said that "War is the Failure of Diplomacy."

Cleo is just for the masses, nothing else... They should have put someone like Ramses II instead ; at his time Egypt was, I think, at its peek. Anyway, I'm trying to build a personal mod about the Ancient Times, and Ramses II definitely got his ticket. :egypt: I hope you won't have to wait for Conquests to see Hittites, as I intend to put them in my mod as well, so let's go Kadesh battle !

As for France, no comment. Louis XIV, and by far... no serious alternative. :king:
