Embassy to mavericks

They sent this:
Greetings Team Quatronia,

We just wanted to let you know that we have elected to build the Pyramids with our great person, rather than bulb Machinery. We wanted to organize a tech trade with you, but we did not hear back, so we were forced to simply act in our own best interest.

I hope all else is well in the land of Quatronia and please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help the Quatronian people.

Regards,
TheMike
Mavericks Diploma

Oh, that explains the tech situation, I thought it was surely folly if they were actually teching Machinery, they would be so far behind.

Police State is a funny state to be in too, not really going to help them much in the long term ;)

Good news is they won't have longbows yet or cheaply :)

To The Mavericks,

We would like to extend our congratulations on your construction of the Pyramids. We hope they will serve you well in years to come.

We have received your messages, and we appreciate your continuing willingness and enthusiasm to make a technology trade. As we have already specified, it is not possible to make a technology trade. We apologize for any problems we may have caused.

Also, I, Ambassador Bowsling, recently had a lengthy discussion with one of your senior officials, obsolete. While this chat helped solidify our alliance, we also received some bewildering messages. We were told that three Amazon galleys were traveling towards our continent behind a work boat and with no clear intentions. This exploring work boat recently came in to sight of Quatronian sentries, with absolutely no sign of galleys. It would be very reassuring to know what obsolete meant by these claims.
Best Regards,
Ambassador Bowsling
Quatronia

Did we have that part about obsolete in a previous message? In a way, we know that they know that we know and so on... that they are rather desperate and trying to get into an alliance themselves, keeping other alliances apart. Don't want to cause too much trouble or specifically make a fuss about their internal team dynamics.

Anyway, I think it was a good idea to congratulate them on the Pyramids as they specifically mentioned it to us, we just noticed they popped the great person right before and all.

I suspect we'll still have to gear up for military conflict with them sometime though, that's almost written in stone now. Good news is we'll have Astro, Civil Service, and so on...kinda a big edge.

A new message, to break the silence:

To the Mavericks, our allies and friends,

Our last communication was a long time ago, and since then, much has happened, however, we have heard nothing from the Mavericks. Is your nation alright?
Sincerely,
Ambassador Bowsling
The Quatronian Continuum

I feel like there I should say something else, but I can't think of anything.
Also, when Merlot comes into contact with Mavs, we should try to dismiss them as liars and perhaps also say that they destroyed a city or something bad like that.

We don't want to lie to the Mavs about Merlot. Doing that always turns around to bite you. There are still many twists and turns left in this game. It's not inconceivable that we could even end up as allies at some point.

So lets continue to be cordial with the Mavs. Sometimes silence is better than saying anything and accidently putting your foot in your mouth.

Yeah, I wouldn't really say anything about MERLOT. And with MERLOT and their team structure (KING!!!) who knows how they will be handling things anyway.

I am all right with a short message to the Mavericks though. Not really too much to say, but you've started off just fine. Maybe we could look at religious spread and make some joke/comment there, we're getting our shrine too anyway, they have another religion and all. But we can't really give them much serious info and don't expect there to be much to deal with.

Your warrior
My team is really getting upset you are wandering your warrior towards our cities. Please turn it around right now, or I will probably not be able to prevent a DoW.

Thanks.

Well we have open borders with them and we allowed passage for their workboat. So we can protest this undiplomatic warning of theirs.

Not sure how provocative we want to be with our warrior but we should probably make sure he is always in jungle/forest from here on out.

Perhaps a diplomatic message.

Greeting to the Maverick people,

At this time the Continuum of Quatronia wishes to convey a message of peace. It has come to our attention that you perceive the lone Quatronian Warrior, whom is wandering the pennisular of the mainland that seperates our great nations, as a threat to your peoples. Our warrior has a mission of exploration and is under instruction only to defend himself. He has already encountered many barbarians that freely roam the mainland.

It is confusing that this one warrior would provoke such a reaction among your people considering that we current share an open border policy. As peace is the intent of the Continuum, let it be known that the Maverick people will be responsible for a DoW and any losses as a result of a conflict will rest on your shoulders.

Best Regards,
Ambassador Bowsling
Quatronia

Too aggressive?
The message should highlight the fact that it's a warrior. One warrior at that. Politically I think it's an excuse to declare war but they are risking their WB which still has a long way to get home...

Sounds good to me. If they declare war, we can, as Amazon put it, "bite into their candied hides" earlier without violating the NAP.
EDIT: They've also sent a message to our gmail:
To Team Q,

There has been a rumor in cities of vast Mavericks empire of the warrior wandering around the jungle in proximity of our land. These rumors happen to be the true we realize now.

Over past couple of centuries the Maverick people reached and asked for alliance with Team Q and almost all of our pleas fell into deaf ears. Therefore the free people of Maverick empire agreed upon next statement:

The warrior west of our city is to turn around and head west right now. Should this warrior make a step in any other direction we will consider this to be open act of hostility by your people and we will consider that move as a declaration of war by team Q upon our people.

We are tired of being ignored by your leaders and this request is an ultimatum.

You have 24 hours to respond to this message, you have been warned!

The destiny of our future relations lays in your hands.

On behalf of Maverick people
Ahmedhadzi, Junior Diplomat.
How cute, sending an ultimatum.
First, they confused east for west, we can always use that excuse and move the warrior west. Also, we should mention our NAP in our message to them.

About "SURE, WE'LL HEAD WEST" - Actually, I would be so terrifically pleased if we did this, hilarious really.

I really liked galdarian's message above but they sent this...anyway I think they are in for trouble. Realistically they probably know there will be war sooner or later anyway. I wouldn't be opposed to a pillaging caravel or two being eventually sent out as well, though we might not have any to spare yet.

In the end, I think the message galdarian posted might still fit, but if we wanted to throw in a cheeky line that we'll proceed due west as instructed I wouldn't be opposed either. Something like:

As peace is the intent of the Continuum, let it be known that we will oblige your wishes and proceed due WEST with our warrior. Otherwise, the Maverick people will be responsible for a DoW and any losses as a result of a conflict will rest on your shoulders.

Quatronia

Edit: Oh, I would like to hear Bowsling's say in this if he can though, mainly just to be sure he's comfortable signing on to our message here in the end. Especially if we go with something aggressive or funny or that will otherwise lead to more conflict, just so as diplomat he doesn't have to feel he may be blamed if he doesn't want to sign onto that. So we could always just say "Best Regards, Team Quatronia" or something.

And whatever we send, I probably do want it sent out today, within their 24 hour time-frame, just so that we have at least answered and will know what's up. Haven't been logging in for a while now so I don't know where we stand on our turn played status but anyway we could also hold off on the warrior move if we must.

We would also like to remind the Maverick people that our two nations signed a non-aggression pact valid until turn 100. As it is currently turn 83, a declaration of war would violate a previously-agreed on treaty.

Touched it up to mention the NAP, hope this looks good.

We could another line about how we gave their workboat passage earlier so we were just expecting the same courtesy with our warrior. Maybe even something about how we want their workboat to make it home safely but if they break the nap that surely wont happen.

Surely they realise that if they declare war now their work boat won't make it home.
They've been whipping out an army for the last 20 turns or so since they finished the Pyramids and started running police state (+25% military production). What do you reckon they have?

2 Galleys, 4 Axes, some horse archers maybe?

How seriously do we take this threat?

How seriously do we take this threat?

This question could spark ages of debate for the Q. I mean, where do we start, being such an enlightened people? On your average schoolground scale of 1-10? An infinite sum in terms of the Kronecker Delta? Dare I say, something entirely subjective those pesky wordsmiths would always want to deal with...

:mischief:

I think the great artists won this one but lack their eloquence, perhaps enough to say these mavericks are like ants to men. ;)

They literally will not be able to touch us. Caravels alone could destroy any navy they have, the 50% greater strength over galleys/triremes is just way too much, plus we'll see their navy coming by culture and they can't cross the ocean. If they manage to send a small force around by ground they'll be facing maces in solid defensive positions, and that's if we don't get our invasion force to them first.

Anyway the message seemed fine in the end, thanks for looking everything over Bowsling. Really I think this was kind of inevitable, the question is how the war will actually proceed, when Sirius might join in and what actual gains we would make.

Haha beautiful use of that smiley.

With the turnplaying thread discussion (main forum) and the game having been down, what's our actual status here? Our message might arrive and be interpreted before the game really proceeds another turn or two after all. Not terrible really, but just wondering.

For that matter, I forget if we're a turn off on this, but we put a chop into Continuum. The granary sounded like a good idea, but that chop on its own could probably finish off a trireme too, and another trireme (= Caravel with upgrades) might not be an unsafe call. We could still build more somewhere though too.
