Well, I'm quiite confused. I do not understand why the Dixie chicks comments are/were big news, when far worse comments from a far more popular perfomrmer Eminem have been largely ignored?

The comment made by Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks
Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.

Here are a few youtube videos of Eminems far worse attack on Bush
We As Americans
Mosh
Those are just the two most blatant of Eminems attack which have included direct threats. Yet the media has largely ignored him even though he is more popular than the Dixie Chicks were!? WDF is up wit' that?

There are tonnes of other bands that have been critical of Bush. Tool, Pearl Jam, Marilyn Manson, NOFX, Foo Fighters to name a few.....

Dixie chics come from backwards america and are percieved to have a duty to always wave the flag and be dumb females.

Noone expects anything of the others you mentioned.

Yeah, but AFAIK Eminem is the only one who has made (thinly veiled) death threats. Yet some chick saying she's ashamed is WAY bigger airtime:confused:

the kind of music the dixie chicks produce is probably usually heard more often by conservatives who would take offence at these remarks. I can't see the religious right listening to eminem....

... and Eminem is against pretty much everything, so being against Bush is not news.

Backwards America? Huh?

Backwards/blinkered/blindly patriotic etc

I know you will refute it, but it is silly how people reacted to the Dixie chics.

Also, didnt this happen over a year ago? Why is this thread surfacing now?

Well by backwards i implied stupidity, and the way people reacted, almost exclusively the conservative, country music, religious folks, to my mind are not up to date with reality and the world around them .'. backwards

Because I've been wanting to make this for a long time, but didn't really discover youtube till recently, plus I kept putting it off.

@Mobboss What do you think is the reason then? Are you more offended by the Dixie Chicks comments than by Eminems?

Here are some of Eminems anti-Bush lyrics for those to lazy to watch the links.

We gonna' raise hell, we gonna' let 'em know, stomp, push, shove, f*** Bush! Till they bring our troops home.

F*** the money I don't rap for dead presidents I'de rather see the president dead.

You know it's funny I have the money to have you killed by somebody who has nothing, I'm past bluffing...

Think most people know the song.. it did make #1 around the globe.

Yeah, well I imagine some people don't besides those are lyrics from three different songs. Not all of which were as popular, I'de still really like to hear from some Conservative posters about why one is more offensive than the other.

I think its already been answered tbh. The dixie's are a postchild for conservative america, and so are expected to live under that image. Noone was surprise by MnM.

The reason the Dixie Chicks comments were such a big deal is because they said them to a foreign audience on foreign soil. I was a big fan of theirs, but will never again buy an album of theirs, and immediately switch stations if a song of theirs comes on.

Linda Ronstadt made worse comments at a concert in, if I remember correctly, Las Vegas. That one, however, was on American soil (for those of you who are ignorant of our geography, Las Vegas is an American city), so I couldn't care less and will continue to listen to her music both on the radio and on CDs and cassettes.

I see, but I'm sure Eminem has performed Mosh, or "We As Americans" on his European tours... Still no outrage?

Can't you see how ridiculus that is? What difference does it make where or what they say to how you enjoy the music.

I'm not an Eminem fan, so I have no room to make any financial impact on him anyway. His music sucks to begin with, so it's not like I'm stocked up on his CDs to begin with.

That's just plain nonsense. You wont listen to good music(assuming you like it) because of the performers political views?
