Emperor Cookbook IV: Suryavarman II

Spoiler :
I played on chroms save purely on a clicking basis. Pressed that green button till 1595 when I lost due to AP. Not good. There was a vote just after 1500ad that ragnar missed out on a win by 2 points.

Spoiler :
I wonder if this means that as a learning exercise, Chromium's save has a lot going for it. We go into the next round knowing that there is a risk of an AP loss and try different strategies to avoid it.

Spoiler :
Interesting idea.

Call me funny but I find the best way to not lose is to win. :mischief:

That being said a random event or any other diplo gaff or something could swing it either way.

There is also the option of an assault on the Ap city or converting.

Spoiler :
I actually do have a 'fair' number of upgraded units (though no cannons), and pretty good sized navy (though few galleons) which could be sent for an attack on Ragnar...

On a side note--if this one is a 'loss' perhaps as a learning experience, we could go back to the previous save (1100 AD) and see if we can prevent it.

I don't mind going back, but I don't think we have lost yet.

Never go back. Always move forward. Your save might be fun to try and see if we can stave off an AI win. ;)

Sorry, was offline for almost a week due to some family things. til when can I submit a save for this round?

Sorry, was offline for almost a week due to some family things. til when can I submit a save for this round?

I think with only 2 saves so far a third would be good get playing!!!

Plattfuss: If you can submit a round in the next 24hours-ish (let me know if you need longer), then I think we can wait on it--I would really like to get a few more saves to vote on (not that RJM's save is bad--its just nice to have options!).

Assass1n: Probably in another 2/3 weeks. I can't imagine this game going more than another round or two--especially with the risk of AI victory.

Spoiler :
I think going back and replaying a round is sorta not worth it--especially since its easy to resolve the problem (Theocracy). It is apparent that we all failed to pay attention to Ragnar with the AP... Who would have thought it! Ragnar with an AP win?! But, I guess its an important lesson for all of us. Pay more attention when a isolated faith group builds the AP--take along missionaries of your faith, or switch to theology if you are building new cities. My question is whether or not the AI will go through the process of actually sending missionaries to convert cities (especially to an isolated island nation)..

Erm the Ai will know where all your cities are and where to send his caravel.

I think play on from here.

If you need till Thursday, that's fine--I just really don't want to go any longer than that, if possible...

Lets hope he posts a save with a game still to win. ;)

Just got my first Ap win on an emperor game so this has been a useful exercise in understanding more about the AP. I think one of the saves had the AP earlier. Hmmm that could of been an interesting exercise.

Plattfuss--thanks for getting that done so quickly!

Here are the saves that are eligible for a vote:

RJM

Chromium

Plattfuss

Lets go ahead and vote through Friday (48ish hours).

I am a little concerned that it may be too late to stop Gilga's crazyness and Ragnars religiousness--but even if we loose it will be a good lesson for all of us!

1st RJM - Best teching rate and tech advantage. NO Ap religion so options open here. Military is weak though.
2nd Platt - Has a foothold in Gilga land less of a risk with AP. Didnt check if we could set up a colony on this. I suspect Gilga still has a huge army and conquest/domination win is a way off.
3rd Chrom. Mainly due to big AP risk. Hard to spread the religion as its spread to a small island city. Although Chrom has got a better tech rate than Plat. Not sure an Ap attack would work. Its not clear where it is or what defences ragnar has. Castles would be a pain. :o(

I think RJM save with a change of civics will be fine. UN or space race?

RJM 3 votes- Weak army, no Democracy, defence pact, good tech lead, 917 Bk's @ 70% sustainable.

Chromium 2 Votes- 4 turns rifling, has Railroad, Military Academy in capital?? 912 @ 70% Risk of falling behind with rifling being shared about.

Platfuss 1 vote- Iron works set up, Into Gilgamesh, but tech parity long war to eliminate. Assembly line 16 turns 662 Beakers @ 70%

All went for Biology?? don't really understand why with little farms, Not so urgent. Little settling of off shore islands for trade routes/resources. HORSES!!!!!!

none went for Statue of Liberty?? Again don't understand why not.

All could easily change to Friendly/pleased with civics switch, and maintain tech rates for a 20% loss.

Since both Chromium and Platfuss already have Hinduism, the issue will be surviving an AP vote. In each case, I supect that spreading enough Hinduism to give us a blocking vote is the best approach. If this were not the issue, I believe Chromium has the better save, but Platfuss has two cities with Hinduism; has already switched civics and still being in slavery will enable us to build missionaries faster. Also, the three cities close to Gilmagesh makes for an interesting position. So my vote is:

#1 Platfuss
#2 Chromium

RJM

In the order I'd like to play them, now that I'm healthy and SGOTM08 is complete.

#1 RJM - appeals to the builder in me. How are we going to get rid of those Gilgamesh cities on our land???

#2 Platfuss - looks fun, how fast can we get the missionaries out? p.s. why a forge on the northeast island?

#3 Chromium - pretty difficult to stave off the AP victory by Ragnar
