Emperor Domination

And we must decide on civic switch. No State property? No Theocracy? No GG in Globe city?

We should also assign engineers and priests not scientists ...

The Pentagon and SoL are in a couple of his core cities, to the south and south-east of Avignon I believe. Not Paris. He's also got a couple of shrines, but I didn't check where or how widely spread the religions are.

Changing two civics at once would cause two turns of anarchy, no savings. Unless we also wanted to switch out of Merc, we might get three for two? (I didn't check. But if we're leaving Representation than either Free Markets or SP (requires Communism) might be better than Merc).

We don't have Jails. Most of our cities still have a buffer of a couple of happies, and draft-anger we be wearing off. But yes, WW will become a serious problem quickly. Keep an eye out to pick up Facism in trade if possible, for Rushmore.

Lurker's comment:

First of all, excellent work on the defensive campaign. :goodjob: I'll have to look over the save when I get a chance later to offer more specific suggestions, but the first phase of this war has worked out about as well as can be reasonably hoped for.

That said, I'm going to again raise the point that Spies sabotaging Oil can make your advance through France a lot easier. Cut a deal with GK or Mehmed to get Communism & deny Nappy his Tanks & Gunships. Every Well you knock out buys you 6-9 turns where he can't build advanced units. I think that's gonna pay huge dividends when you go over on offense.

Interesting, but sorely problematic advice.

We have a massive stack, and, unless you'd have us wait to build the Yard while Nappy acts, your comments are wellmeaning but highly unrealistic.

If his Oil is going down, we'll have to do it the old fashioned way - by a massive show force.

Nappy only has 2 sources of oil and 1 source of coal. If/when we do go on the offensive, I suggest taking a swath of 4 cities that would cut his empire in 1/2 and deny him both coal and oil. If we could do that and hold those cities (a big IF) then that would really hurt him imo, especially if we were able to start fielding our own marines/tanks/etc.

p.s., GREAT turn lilnev, I concur on awarding you a medal for that one. And nice to see that I don't have to field any blame in the end for the cats not holding their own

Of course, I don't mean that you should have your army sit around in Carthage waiting for Spies to be deployed. What I had in mind was sending Spies to sabotage Nappy's southern oil (& GW's oil, if he ever puts a Well on it) while your forces are on the move. In any case, I looked at the save & neither GK or Mehmed have Communism anyway, so it's not an option. Seems that Nappy is so badly depleted that you'll drive all the way to Seattle's oil pretty quickly anyway. I doubt Nappy can muster much coherent resistance besides some Artillery spamming on your stack.

hmm i just did a lot of micromanagement to boost production prior to hitting enter for the 1st time.

do we all agree on the drawn up invasion plan? It takes his oil after 5 cities but leaves us also very vulnerable to a counter attack. I would prefer some flanking. maybe through alex' cities...

but so far it looks really good

we should try and get demo with electricity from mehmet. then we can switch to police state and emancipation at once. and spam some more cottages to make up for the loss of representation...

My vote is for taking out the coal and oil cities, as long as we think we can hold them. The question is: can we hold them? An alternative would be to raze those cities if we don't think we can hold them. We have to limit his production (e.g., coal-plants) and ability to create tanks and other oil-based units (incl. navy).

One of his Oil patches is in the far southwest. We're not going to get there any time soon. I don't recall where his Coal is, or how many sources he has. Anyone? And/or, does he have Three Gorges?

I think the targets should be: Avignon (proximity), then Boston (frees up some land from his cultural pressure), then Orleans and Lyon (Pentagon and SoL, plus holy cities; shrines?). All four of those are decent production centers for him as well. The drawback is that a lot of cities become "frontier cities" and have to be defended.

An alternative would be to go after Washington first, simply defending at Carthage until we have Panzers. Washington's power and especially production are much lower, so we could move faster while reducing our frontier exposure.

He only has one source of coal. The oil patch in the SW could be razed if we were to strike into the heart of his empire. At the very least we should try to pillage it. If we don't think we can defend at this point then I think it would be better to take out GW so that we don't have to worry about guarding our flank.

hey anybody some ideas on how to deal with tanks. nappy is not sending much, just lonely tanks. taking them out in the open field costs me some 2 to 3 units. that sounds wrong to me, but otherwise he just pillages the crap out of our land and doesn't attack our cities, which is a much better match up...

My reply to this - so what?

Let them pillage farms and roads, because that's all there is for quite awhile in our lands. Don't feel the need to kill every tank on site, let them get deep.

hmm, I just played and he kicked me pretty well. I'm not sure what I could have done better. maybe some one else wants to replay...

I post a report later today.

nappy didn't do much except for sending single tanks. I killed some other kept roaming. 2 small stacks he send, I took out pretty easily...

in turn 7 I moved out with 15 artillery and some 20 infantry to take avignon which was only defended by 5 units. one turn before I was ready to attack not much is left of the stacks...

oh here the save if you want to look at it already...
