Emperor training grounds--I need training!

@Bede: Maybe we ought to toss out some thoughts on getting ready to go commie. My thoughts:
  • Builder stuff: Factories in the core, courthouses everywhere. Quit worrying about banks.
  • Military stuff: Continue to build cavalry until we no longer have to share this world with Elizabeth, Ragnar, or Temujin. Not necessarily in that order.

Re: going commie: pre-build for SPHQ too? Right now CivAssist says Commie isn't as good as Monarchy, though I don't quite trust it.

Re: cats. Myself, cat, and wife are all now in the UK. I've had quite enough of airports for a while!

Bear in mind - we'll want a lot of corruption fighting improvements... and we'll want police stations in the cities that matter. This means we won't necessarily switch to communism immediately after getting the tech... we'll want to build a few police stations first.
 
Need Espionage for SPHQ as well as Communism so there are at least 10-12 turns and the SPHQ is cheap and if we have a factory in the town I think it builds in 10 or less.

0 1270 Some minor MM, mostly chaging clowns to tax collectors in resiting cities. Press Space, see what the Vikings will chuck at us. IBT: Rome dials up for TM swap, I tell him to go away. A single 'zerk pops up. Add a couple of bits to the Palace.
1 1275 Pop 'zerk with Elite Luck Horseman - no GL. Move troops into position by Trondheim.
2 1280 More troop movement. IBT: Inca start JS Bach.
3 1285 Capture Alesund. IBT: A few more 'zerks pop up. Units in place to hit Trondheim this turn, Copenhagen next.
4 1290 Capture Trondheim, the Oracle, Rax, Harbor, Market intact! IBT: Bergen flips, lose an Elite Cav. Should easily re-take next turn, but annoying.
5 1295 Sell Physics, Economics, Metallurgy, Silks, Spices, WM to Rome for Furs, Dyes, 60g, 2gpt. Re-take Bergen. Capture Copenhagen with Ele armies. Rax intact :) Two Vet Cavs die to Pikes in Molde. RNG, curse you. Third wins losing 1hp. Fourth is red-lined. Oops, having messed round with the Settler Galleon, lost the spot to the Mongols... sorry. IBT: Inca knocks twice... asks for ROP+Horses for gpt. I tell him to go away, of course. MilAcad finished in Delhi. Inca boats heading our way. I think they may be getting ready to declare. Start on Nationalism (seeing as we're going for Commie).
6 1300 Stuff moves round. More railing and organising of Worker stacks. IBT: Inca boats turn round and go away.
7 1305 Rumble into Molde. Only Stockholm remains of the Vikings on the mainland. Capture Bodo, Stockholm is the only Viking city now. I took a couple of free shots there with Cav armies to soften it up. Main strike force hits next turn. Not sure I like where Bodo is, though - but there's a Settler available, should next player wish to move it. Looks like Winnipeg flipped to the Mongols at some point, too. IBT: Cav beats off a sea-born invasion at Bodo, and Copenhagen flips! They only have one chuffing city! Lost an Ele and a Cav.
8 1310 Stockholm falls. Back to Copenhagen, I guess…. The single Cav in Molde takes out the Pike in Copenhagen, promotes, and finally:

Next: start re-organising to take on the remains of the Mongols. The rail network has snaked down to ex-Viking holdings, so should be able to move around easily. All Trebs upgraded.
9 1315 Quiet time… the Mongol front is very long. I'm assigning one Army to each potential flashpoint.
10 1320 Core is building a mix of Cavs and Factories. Researching Nationalism for Commie & Espionage. Need Settlers to fill in around ex-Viking lands (at next player's discretion). Rail network is moving along nicely, have a number of 6-native or equivalent stacks railing 1 tile/turn.

@Viper: See if you can take a galleon full of Cav and go sack England's last city. Before you take it, whack that English archer/longbow with an elite something...maybe we can get a leader.

@Team: Don't overlook researching Theory of Evolution... Ideally we want to get ToE built before the AI can finish Sufferage... We need the better workers from Replaceable parts as well...
 
Suggest we take a close look at the map. We are very close to a domination victory with 43.5% currently, 9.8% unclaimed (probably on our home continent), and the Mongols holding 9%. That comes pretty close to 66%.
 
Only 5 turns because of RL and the turns are a little longer than usual.

IBT- Kazan riots. Mongols take Bukhara, we have a War Elephant army and a cav outside it (they only had a longbow) so I'm not worried. Newton's University complete. Romans and Inca building Magellan's, Inca building Bach's.

We'll want about 3 more settlers to fill in land. Should put us at... about 54%. A quick invasion of the other continent could easily bring that to 66%.

Well I was wrong about getting to Domination on our continent.

Spent the last fifty years finding all the units in our army and navy, gettin the core railed up so we would have a couple of 40-50spt towns and researching Communism and Espionage. Did not put Lenin on the train from Helsinki, though.

Once Espionage comes in on the IT, I would build the SPHQ in Barcelona, then rush a factory there.

The work force is prety much done with railing up the old core and can start heading south towards Barcelona.

There is a fleet off the coast of Rome with Armies and a settler and some cannon on the way. There is another task force with an army and some cannon heading south along the east coast for eventual transit to the west coast of Rome. Rome has no horses so the heaviest offensive thing the armies will be facing are MDI and the fleet is parked just outside his borders next to what appears to be the only iron source. :satan:

He does have saltpeter so cities will have muskets in the garrison but hasn't reached the IA yet so no riflemen.

It is going to take all of Rome and the rump of Byzantium to nail the Domination victory, I'm afraid, so it won't happen soon as the transit time to both places is about half a turn set.

It's a matter of time, a little attention to detail and the efficient use of troops and some careful diplomacy to finish this one off in our favor. Communism isn't a requirement but the boost to productivity is fun to watch.

Hmm... how's Constantinople looking? I can't remember if it built Sun Tzu's or not... if it did, it'd be well worth hitting?

One thing we'll have to look out for when taking on Rome - Inca have twice our culture, so there could be a real threat of flips that way. According to General Panic, we are weak vs. Inca!

How about the Inca-held island up north?

I got about halfway through this... we're commie now.... I'll get it finished up tomorrow night, if that's okay with the team. I've got all of my work stuff in boxes, ready for a trip to a new office tomorrow. (And the new office is bigger! :D )

Turn 5 (1420) Worker turns continue amid a proletariat revolution! Spend a bunch of time hiring specialists.

Turn 6 (1425) The revolution continues... the workers don't get much done...

IBT - We come out of Communism with Electricity due in 8, 201+116gpt. Science to 50% gets Electricity in 6, +2gpt.

Firing clowns...hiring cops/tax collectors... now at +8gpt
Almora is now producing 40spt net. That's a 2-turn Cavalry pump.
Barcelona is producing 30spt net. SPHQ in 7.

Turn 8 (1435) not played....

As I mentioned before, I got us into commie... and spent some time last night mm'ing the cities before and after the revolution...

I planned to post this as a progress report, but my internet connection started acting up last night. I got dragged into a stupid planning meeting at the end of the day and got home real late tonight, so if the next player could play 12 that'd even things up...

I say we go straight from Electricity to Replaceable Parts (mainly for the increased worker efficiency) and start building units in earnest. The boats are still close to home.

Now that we've got 2 cities that are set to crank out Cav, all we need are a few rifles and we should be able to take out Rome.
