Empire: Total War Demo

Downloaded the demo but I can't get past the pre-loading screen. :(

It takes like five minutes for that to pass. Did you try just waiting?

Yeah, but not that long. I checked the Task Manager and saw that the app wasn't responding so I shut it off. Will try again tho. :)

I've completed both battles in the demo, and I enjoyed it. My first attempt at the sea battle was an embarrasing faliure. Using my limited knowledge of historical haval tactics, I decided to try the classic splitting of their line. The first ship went through beautifully, guns blazing on both sides, raking the enemy ships with fire. The second one though, went straight into the side of an enemy ship and stopped. My third ship then wnet into the back of the second and so on, until the pride of the British navy was a 5 ship pileup :p

I think you just saved my fleet. Was about to do the same tactic when I remembered your post. Clinched a victory with a quick changing of tactics.

Demo is fun, but quite openly displayed the age of my computer, though I'm slightly glad to hear that horrific loading times are not unique just to me. I've got the game on pre-order, as well as begun the long process of upgrading my system.

Is there a way to ram your ships into the enemy's?

I believe ramming is in the game. Havn't tried it. It isn't recommended, those ships aren't meant to ram.

The game hung up on the first copyright blah blah blah screen, and I had to end it again when loading a tutorial, but it worked from then on. So it may take a few tries to start the game, but it alt tabbed well when stuck.

One thing I've always wanted in the TW series and more so now than ever, is for a beacon to flash on the mini-map when a unit of yours is attacked. I get distracted by a battle/flanking movementand then turn aronud to ifnd out my artillery was overrun while the nearby troops did nothing.

I failed at the naval battle, ships seemed to surrender quite easily. I had some ships that seems to still be in good enough shape but stopped doing anything and surrendered, stupid cowards.

The american infantry in the battle didn't last long either. But at least the americans did attack me a bit.

Melee could use some polish.

The slow camera when zoomed in and with STANDARD camaera view you can't zoom in all the way are annoying as hell.

The stakes are weird, I found a random, I'm not sure how long, but it was probably two hundred feet long line of stakes the americans placed at one point. That was from one unit.

Other than that is was good, and if I don't complain about something it is most likely well done or at least good enough. It seemed to run just fine on high and ultra high specs.

I hope the demo version contain such problems. I think full version will not conatins that annoying problems or less although.

PC Gamer just published its review of Empire: TW.

Score was 94% with kudos.

"Crown jewel of the esteemed Total War series...this is such a brilliantly designed game that PC Gamers cannot afford to miss it."

I stopped giving a crap about scores a long time ago. They mean very little. Professional reviewers for the most part can suck my you know what, they do enough of it already.

Although that is a good sign.

I could play the demo at "high" settings but loading still takes a long time. When I alt-tab out the game stops responding.

Edit: Still looks like an incredible good game though.

Well it's tomorrow so we'll see if the bugs are demo exclusive. HOPEFULLY they are as I've been looking for a c18th Century strategy game on par with the Total War style of combat since Imperial Glory.

If not, CA is on par with the average fix most of the bugs. In a year or so there iwll be a good mod or so that will do to Empire what the Stainless Steel, Eurpa Barbaium or Rome Total Realism mods did to Medieval 2 and Rome.
