I have a 128mb 9800 pro
3.4 GHZ P4
1 Gig PC4000 Ram
Abit IS7
All background programs turned off

When you get towards the modern age and there are lots of cities and units... The game slows down so horrendously it isn't even funny! I turned off AA and turned the graphical qualities to medium, yet zooming out can sometimes freeze the game. Because of this I have to play zoomed in, I cannot zoom out or it slows to a grinding halt. Even when I am zoomed in and I use a turn... It can slow down incredibly. This just doesn't seem fair, for my rig it should not do this- especially when I have it at a low graphical quality. It really just sucks! I like this game but come on, it just ruined it when I got to the end and could barely play anymore because of this! I have the new ATI driver and SP2, I did everything I could think of but I still have very little luck. It just.... It's unbelievable... So I may not have the best graphics card, but it's still a decent card and this is a Civ game we are talking about, is there any help? I'm not here to bash the game... I just want to finish the game! lol

Thanks
Frank

I wonder if the game plays well on Sid's own PC. :)

You are crazy. Sid of course can play the game smoothly.
He has a computer with 8.8GHz CPU, 32G DDR1600 Memory, and nVIDIA Gforce 1000000 video card!

ROFL  You'd think he'd be able to afford that rig after all of his fans paid for a release that barely passed QA.

I believe they screwed up the leader pic of Shi Huang Di and Kublai Khan. How come Khan looks like Shi Huang Di, and Shi looks like Khan?

I have almost the some config as you and don't have slow down. What happens when you view the globe?

QA, what's that? Surely there are too many hardware combinations to test before we ship the software.

Yeah I'm having this problem too.

My config:
AMD Athlon FX55
1.5GB Ram
Geforce 6800GT
Asus Via chipset based motherboard.

Running the latest offical drivers from nvidia, gonna try the newest beta's next I guess.

Basically if I zoom out too far or use the glove view, my game goes from a perfectly fluid frame rate to 3 fps chugs. It's wierd too because it drastically lowers the quality of the globe, so there should NOT be any slowdown. If anything it should be speeding up. I kind of suspect it's those clouds that overlay the globe... but who knows.

I have a system with most components at the bare minimum specs, but it isn't the global view that gives me issues. It might be because I let the software set my game settings first, then cut out a few other things like leader voices. It's the World Wonder movies and exiting the ending graph screen that causes the crashes and lockups.
