End of Game Sale: Everything Must Go!

My most exciting game so far ended with a science victory while I was on a defensive war with a powerful neighbour. Going round selling heaps of no-longer-useful buildings like culture buildings helped me get enough gold to buy some units to help defend the core cities and secure the win. I know what you mean by end of game sale.

This is pretty much why I leave diplo victory turned off. Usually left it off when I played civ 4 also, if only to stop the apo-lol you can't DoW anyone-tic palace.

I liked civ 2, where it was just space or death, and there was the option of turning space off. Probably simplified AI design. Kinda liked the 100k culture in civ 3 though.

I think if the city states are dead, you need to liberate them, otherwise you'd be needing to get more votes than were available.

Right. The AI will always vote for themselves unless they were eliminated and subsequently liberated, in which case they apparently (I haven't seen this) will vote for whoever liberated them.

If all the city-states are conquered, diplomatic victory is impossible until a sufficient quantity (usually 9) are liberated.

In past games I have liberated two AI civs and neither has voted for me. In fact one of them questioned why I had so many military units by his city
