Enemy movement in MP WAY too fast

I am playing Civilization Complete on a LAN with one human opponent as well as computer AIs. The enemy movement is animated so fast that the screen flips back and forth with lightning speed on both human players. The enemy movements and battles are never shown. We keep losing units left and right but don’t know it until we happen to notice someone is missing.

Since I have Civ Complete, all patches are included so it can’t be that.

I do not have CAPS lock on, nor am I pressing any combination of CTRL, SHIFT or ALT.

I have ALL the boxes checked in Preferences…animate enemy moves, see battles, etc. I tried unchecking these boxes but then didn't see anything at all, period.

Before I loaded Civ Complete I played single-player and I was able to see everything just fine.

I have searched all the forums and found that many people have had this same problem, but haven’t seen anyone post a solution.

Can someone please, please help? We are new to Civilization III and really want to like this game, but we are very early on in our first game…once we have several battles going at once this glitch is going to become unbearable.

Sounds like you're on the right track with checking out the Preferences to make certain all animations are turned on. Any chance the other human player is unchecking the boxes? I don't do "multi-player", so I'm not sure how you'd affect each other.

Have you recently downloaded anyone else's game? I've found that, if I download a save from this board and the Preferences are not my usual ones, my next game will have the other person's preferences and I have to change everything back.

Have you looked in the Multi-Player forum here at CFC? I think that's where most of the people who play with humans hang out, and they might be able to give you better answers. This area of the board tends to be primarily single-player folks.

Best of luck to you!!! :)

gmaharriet - the settings in preferences on both computers are the same. (The reason I posted up here is because someone made a comment in a post in MP that said that forum isn't very active. But I'll try posting there as well.)

madviking - what does IBT mean? (Sorry, I'm new to this!)

I should clarify one thing. Neither human players can see the enemy moves. (We are sitting in the same room and we compare notes each time we END.) Here is how it works:

I go first...make all my moves, and hit END. Player #2 then makes all his moves and hits END. That's when BOTH computers start moving enemy units at mach speed. So neither of us get to see the enemy moves because they are going too fast...I should see them because I am the first player, right?

So I guess this begs the question: Do ANY of you out there playing on a LAN with a human opponent and AI opponents get to see enemy moves? If so, please, please reply so I can try and duplicate your game setup, preferences, etc.
